What You’ll Do

As a Box Truck Helper, you will assist the Driver in loading, unloading, and delivering building materials while supporting yard and warehouse operations. You will play a key role in ensuring the efficient flow of deliveries, maintaining inventory accuracy, and providing professional service to every customer.

Delivery Support & Material Handling

• Load and unload trucks and bunking materials correctly and safely.
• Collaborate with Dispatch or store managers to pull loads and ensure they are ready for the trucks’ next runs.
• Inspect incoming materials for damage and verify counts for accuracy.
• Ensure delivery consistency by checking products against purchase orders for quantity and quality before loading or unloading.
• Verify load-related documentation, such as bills of lading, to ensure accuracy.

Customer Service & Communication

• Assist diverse customers, including walk-ins, retail pick-ups, and business-to-business clients.
• Resolve customer concerns by identifying and addressing dissatisfaction with materials being loaded.
• Provide professional service during all customer interactions, representing the company positively.
• Communicate effectively with managers, store personnel, and customers to coordinate tasks.
• Follow instructions from supervisors or salespeople regarding specific customer requests.

Yard & Equipment Operations

• Receive and pull orders and credit returns with a high degree of accuracy.
• Maintain yard organization, including general housekeeping and landscaping tasks.
• Operate equipment safely, including power tools and saws for making rough cuts.
• Support inventory activities, including warehouse and yard tasks as assigned.
• Utilize basic computer skills to assist with order management and operational efficiency.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety policies and workplace safety procedures as outlined by management.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding company financial information and business plans.
• Immediately report workplace injuries or safety concerns to management.
• Protect company values by following all housekeeping and operational expectations.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by management to support overall store operations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: Familiarity with building materials is preferred.
• Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently in a consistently safe manner.
• Technical Skills: Ability to read/use measuring materials and understand basic math.
• Licensing: Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
• Equipment: Forklift experience is preferred; forklift certification is a plus.
• Attributes: Strong time-management skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
