What is the role?

The Branch Audit & Operations Specialist role is responsible for the monitoring of branch performance for operational consistency, process adherence, procedural accuracy, and compliance with established safety and security standards. The goal of this position is to help create a positive, safe, secure, and stimulating environment while identifying opportunities to improve processes and procedures, provide on-site branch operational assistance, support organizational and department specific projects as necessary, and assist branch staff in delivering exceptional experiences for our members. This role will partner with various levels of leadership and cross-functional teams to resolve issues, introduce efficiencies and strengthen overall branch operational performance.


Key responsibilities include monitoring and reinforcing safety and security procedures, identifying and escalating operational, safety, security, and compliance risks, supporting incident response and resolution, and promoting awareness of loss prevention, emergency preparedness, and workplace safety practices. The Specialist will help ensure the branches maintain appropriate controls and adhere to organizational policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and established safety and security protocols. This role will also provide reception desk support at our Cherry Creek headquarters and assist with maintaining a secure and welcoming environment.

What will be expected of me?

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between branches and operational teams regarding operational effectiveness, controls, compliance, risk management, transaction processes, and member experience.
  • Conduct branch safety and security assessments and serve as a key contact for escalated safety and security matters.
  • Support branches in maintaining operational excellence and adhering to safety and security standards through onsite support, training, development, and coaching.
  • Provide ongoing safety and security training to new and existing employees to ensure staff are prepared and understand the established safety, security, and emergency procedures
  • Conduct branch operational audits which include individual cash positions, vaults, Efficient Cash Recyclers (ECRs), control logs and adherence to safety and security protocols
  • Partner with branch teams to assist in resolving outstanding branch errors, including documentation and log discrepancies, cash differences, and training deficiencies
  • Monitor and review operational reports to identify issues and drive operational excellence.
  • Monitor branch security and ensure compliance with established processes and procedures.
  • Assist with ordering and reviewing branch vault cash and ATM cash orders.
  • Provide scheduled reception desk coverage at the Cherry Creek location.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education:

INTERNAL APPLICANTS:

  • 1+ Year of demonstrating successful performance in a branch or operations role within Westerra.
  • Work experience must have demonstrated skills/ abilities listed below.
  • Basic understanding of Westerra’s core operating and ancillary support systems.

EXTERNAL APPLICANTS:

  • 2+ years’ experience with physical branch banking;
  • Or 2+ years physical security program oversight


Skills and Abilities:

  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates excellent member service and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and apply new information effectively on the job.
  • Basic understanding of branch audit controls, safety, security, and operational procedures, preferably within a banking environment.
  • Ability to assess and address routine safety, security, and operational situations, using sound judgment when interpretation or deviation from standard procedures is required.
  • Supports and reinforces adherence to branch policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to train, coach, and positively influence others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Basic understanding of administrative and operational responsibilities.

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?

  • Office environment
  • Works primarily at desk
  • Regional travel required - up to 60% of the time and up to 30 miles (for mileage reimbursement purposes, your home location will be Cherry Creek).
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 25 pounds.

Salary: in addition to the starting hourly rate of $19.75 - $24.68, this position is eligible for Westerra’s self-funding annual reward plan!
