About the role
Gravity Media Australia is looking for a Broadcast Network Engineer to help design, operate and evolve the high-performance IP infrastructure that powers world-class productions. You'll play a critical role in ensuring IP-based broadcast infrastructure is reliable, resilient and ready for live production, working at the cutting edge of SMPTE ST 2110, IP media, high-speed networking and broadcast IT, supporting complex live environments across multiple Gravity Media facilities.
Key responsibilities
Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot core and edge IP broadcast fabrics supporting uncompressed video, audio, and metadata flows (ST 2110-20/30/40) as well as compressed video such as JPEGXS ST 2110-22 and AVC/HEVC flows.
Manage Precision Time Protocol (PTP) grandmaster clocks, boundary clocks, and network-wide timing synchronization.
Deploy and maintain NMOS services for broadcast endpoint routing and dynamic connection control.
Oversee IP audio transport architectures (AES67, Dante, Ravenna) and seamlessly integrate them into the primary ST 2110 network fabric.
Monitor live network bandwidth, unicast/multicast traffic routing, and hitless redundancy.
Configure and perform routine maintenance on high-capacity spine-leaf switches dedicated to live production workflows.
Manage VLAN allocation, Quality of Service (QoS), Spanning Tree Protocol, and multicast IP address assignments.
Collaborate with IT teams to ensure alignment between corporate and media networks.
Create tools for technical teams to diagnose and self-support simple problems within media networks.
Serve as the primary technical support for IP network infrastructure during high-profile live events and studio operations.
Collaborate with broadcast engineers, audio teams, and production crew to route complex signals and integrate new technical hardware.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, including network topology diagrams and IP/multicast mapping sheets.
Test, evaluate, and execute controlled software and firmware updates across network switches, broadcast gateways, and media endpoints.
Participate in system design and architectural upgrades as Gravity Media expands its IP capabilities and production facilities.
About you
Strong experience in IP networking and broadcast environments.
3-5 years in a similar role is preferred.
Hands-on knowledge of SMPTE ST 2110 and IP media workflows.
Experience with multicast networking, PTP, QoS and high-performance switching.
Knowledge of NMOS and IP audio technologies such as AES67, Dante or Ravenna.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
The ability to work calmly and collaboratively when the pressure is on.
A proactive approach to documentation, continuous improvement and technical problem-solving.
Build strong partnerships with all key stakeholders including management and staff, and strong relationships with relevant suppliers and manufacturers.
Maintain a high level of knowledge of the industry, the Company, your marketplace, and competition.
