The Reconciliation Preparer (LAM Level) is responsible for preparing accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring completeness of supporting documentation, and identifying discrepancies for resolution. The role requires strong analytical skills, understanding of accounting principles, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Reconciliation Preparation

  • Prepare end-to-end balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts (GL vs sub-ledger/source systems).
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper substantiation of account balances.
  • Follow standardized templates and reconciliation formats (e.g., BlackLine, ARCS).
  • Meet strict month-end, quarter-end, and year-end deadlines.

2. Supporting Documentation & Validation

  • Compile and attach appropriate supporting documents for each reconciliation.
  • Validate balances using system data, reports, and schedules.
  • Ensure all reconciling items are clearly explained and appropriately categorized.

3. Open Items & Ageing Management

  • Identify, investigate, and track reconciling differences.
  • Maintain ageing analysis of open items and ensure timely follow-ups for closure.
  • Flag long-outstanding and high-risk items to reviewers/management proactively.

4. Issue Resolution & Coordination

  • Coordinate with internal teams (R2R, P2P, O2C, Treasury, etc.) to resolve discrepancies.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring reconciling differences.
  • Support implementation of corrective actions and process fixes.

5. Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to internal control frameworks (SOX/ICFR guidelines where applicable).
  • Maintain proper audit trails and documentation for reconciliations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required data and explanations.

6. Quality & Process Adherence

  • Ensure all reconciliations meet defined quality standards with minimal review comments.
  • Adhere to SOPs, client-specific guidelines, and reconciliation policies.
  • Proactively identify process gaps and suggest improvements.

7. MIS & Reporting Support

  • Update reconciliation trackers and dashboards with accurate status.
  • Provide inputs for reporting metrics such as:
    • Reconciliation completion status
    • Open items ageing
    • Pending action items
  • Support reviewers and managers during governance reviews.

8. Continuous Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities for standardization and automation.
  • Support implementation of tools and process enhancements.
  • Participate in transformation initiatives (e.g., reconciliation automation tools).

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Balance Sheet Reconciliations and GL Accounting
  • Basic knowledge of R2R processes and financial reporting
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail and strong documentation skills
  • Working knowledge of reconciliation tools (BlackLine / ARCS / Excel-based recs)
  • Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple accounts
  • Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills
  • B.Com / M.Com / MBA (Finance) / CA Inter (preferred)
  • 3–7 years of experience in finance & accounting, with exposure to reconciliations
  • Experience in shared services / outsourcing environment preferred
