Building Maintenance Technician

The Department of State Police is seeking a Building Maintenance Supervisor who will perform overall supervision and execution of all routine maintenance of all buildings within the Massachusetts State Police General Headquarters, including but not limited to painting and preparation work, appliance repairs, interior, and exterior cleaning, including mowing lawns, and snowplowing, minor electrical and plumbing jobs, flooring and use of hand and power tools. This person will ensure General Headquarters meets basic safety standards. They will recommend repairs/replacement to larger goods and equipment and work as a liaison to outside contractors and vendors. The candidate will be experienced in terms of construction, preventative maintenance and repairs of all machinery, and equipment within the grounds.

Other duties include but are not limited to\:

1. Plans, lays out, performs, and supervises the maintenance and repair work to be completed by agency maintenance employees and contractors.

2. Performs and supervises the preventive maintenance on buildings and upkeep of grounds including the mowing of lawns, snow, and ice removal.

3. Under the direction of the Construction and Maintenance Foreman responsible for day-to-day maintenance including minor repairs, appliance repairs, painting, simple carpentry and general upkeep.

4. Aids in exterior work, including power-washing, window cleaning and yard work.

5. Assists with moving and assembling new equipment and furniture.

6. Executes painting, caulking, minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs.

7. Performs inventory of certain materials used in preventive maintenance.

8. Makes inspection tours to ensure that buildings and appurtenances are properly secured, and that standards of safety, sanitation and cleanliness are properly maintained.

9. Writes specifications for and estimates the costs of repairs, remodeling or alterations to be completed by contract.

10. At the direction of the Facilities Manager and Foreman, performs related duties such as the requisitioning of supplies and equipment; the allotting of office, parking and other space; and the maintenance of records and preparation of reports.
