Building Services Inspector (25260769)

The appointee will be a member of the Building Services and Systems in Estates Office and assist the Project Building Services Engineer in technical and site matters on all campuses of the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Building Services Engineer in all aspects of supervision of building services work on site within the contracts and the maintenance of site records;
  • Monitor labour resources, progress, materials and equipment used on site;
  • Responsible for the upkeep of site records including site record books and submission of all monthly returns;
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with other contractors, utility companies, client and government departments on site matters;
  • Solve minor disputes/conflicts between various contractors, utility companies, client and government departments on site;
  • Ensure the correct materials and equipment are delivered to site by contractors and that only those approved materials and equipment are installed;
  • Assist in the checking of any site measurement of building services works and payments claimed by contractors;
  • Assist in the site survey of existing building services installation during the construction stage, including submission of proposals for additional, alteration or repair works;
  • Inspect and witness the testing and commissioning of building services installation;
  • Monitor the progress of building services outstanding works and defects rectification works;
  • Assist the Project Building Services Engineer in the checking of building services operation and maintenance manuals and as-fitted drawings submitted by various contractors;
  • Carry out all such other duties as directed by the Senior Clerk of Works; and
  • Supervise and monitor contractors' production of building services coordinated and combined drawings.

Requirements:

  • A recognised degree in Building Services Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering or above with a minimum of eight years’ relevant experience including four years’ working experience in the capacity of Assistant Building Services Inspector, or equivalent;
  • Candidate with particular skills (i.e. knowledge of BIM/ AutoCAD/ ICT, Registered Electrical Worker (REW) etc.,) is preferred;
  • Candidate with particular experience (e.g. projects of restaurant/ canteen/ lecture theatre/ wet & dry laboratories, installation of AV & IT systems, green features and smart facilities etc.) will be an advantage;
  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; and
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
