Key Responsibilities

1. Professional Vehicle Operation

  • CDL Compliance: Operate full-size school buses (Type C or D) and passenger vans in strict accordance with NH Department of Safety and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
  • Pre/Post-Trip Inspections: Perform rigorous daily inspections of air brakes, emergency exits, stop arms, and fluid levels. Must complete and sign official DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports).

3. Administrative & Maintenance

  • Logistics: Maintain accurate mileage logs, fuel receipts, and student headcounts.
  • Vehicle Readiness: Ensure the bus/van is fueled and cleaned daily. Report any mechanical "red flags" immediately to ensure the vehicle is pulled from service if unsafe.

    • P (Passenger) Endorsement

  • Medical Fitness: Must maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Med Card).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy vehicles or school buses.
  • Clearances: Must pass NH School Bus Driver criminal background check, fingerprinting, and be subject to federally mandated random drug and alcohol testing.
