Business Analyst — Avaloq Banking Transformation
Summary
The Business Analyst acts as a bridge between business stakeholders and Avaloq delivery squads, managing requirements from initial elicitation through to production go-live. The role requires deep expertise in the Avaloq Banking Suite and experience leading functional workstreams in large-scale core banking transformations.
About the Role:
As Business Analyst you are the bridge between business stakeholders and Avaloq delivery squads: you elicit and challenge requirements, shape them into Avaloq-executable functional designs, and stay accountable for them through build, SIT, UAT and go-live.
This is a hands-on delivery role on large, multi-workstream Avaloq programmes. You will own the requirement thread end to end — from a business pain point in the front office to a signed-off UAT result in production.
1. Requirements Engineering & Documentation
Avaloq Banking Suite (functional) · Requirements management · BPMN / Visio process modelling · JIRA & Azure DevOps · Confluence · SQL (preferred) · Advanced Excel (pivots, lookups, reconciliation) · Functional testing, SIT & UAT management · Business process re-engineering

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:1. Requirements Engineering & Documentation
- Elicit requirements through workshops, stakeholder interviews and process observation across front, middle and back office.
- Translate business needs into Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Functional Specification Documents (FSDs), user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Author Avaloq-specific functional designs covering impacted business objects, parameters, interfaces, reports and batch processing.
- Own and maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) from business need through to test evidence.
- Lead a functional workstream end to end with the client and understand business scope, requirements in full detail and granularity to shape the BRD for development.
- Map "As-Is" processes, define the "To-Be" target state, and perform gap and impact analysis against standard Avaloq functionality.
- Distinguish standard Avaloq capability from customisation, and justify every deviation on cost, risk and upgrade impact.
- Work with Solution Architects, Product Owners and Avaloq technical consultants to select the optimal design option.
- Identify automation and simplification candidates in manual operations, and quantify the effort/benefit case for each.
- Act as the primary functional liaison between business users, operations, risk, compliance and the delivery squads.
- Constructively challenge senior stakeholders where requirements conflict, and drive them to a single agreed position.
- Secure formal sign-off on requirements and designs, and manage scope change through the agreed governance process.
- Report progress, risks, issues and dependencies clearly to programme management.
- Build, refine and prioritise the backlog in JIRA or Azure DevOps alongside the Product Owner.
- Write INVEST-compliant user stories with testable acceptance criteria.
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives; resolve requirement clarifications within the sprint.
- Design and review test scenarios and test cases; drive SIT, UAT and business validation to completion.
- Coordinate UAT execution with business users and lead defect triage, prioritisation and retesting.
- Support data migration and reconciliation: field mapping, data quality analysis, remediation rules and pre/post-migration validation.
- Support regulatory, MIS and reporting workstreams where in scope.
- Prepare training material and business readiness artefacts; support cutover, hypercare and post-go-live stabilisation.
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5–10 years of Business Analysis experience, of which at least 3 years in banking or financial services.
- Avaloq: Hands-on delivery experience on the Avaloq Banking Suite — a firm requirement for this role. You must be able to discuss Avaloq business objects, parameters and functional design decisions unaided.
- Demonstrated delivery on at least one large-scale core banking transformation programme, end to end.
- Greenfield: Proven exposure to a greenfield implementation, with end-to-end command of your workstream from initial design through to go-live.
- Cross-workstream: Track record of coordinating across parallel workstreams — engaging other workstream owners to surface cross-impacts, agree interface and data dependencies, and keep design decisions aligned programme-wide.
- Proven authorship of BRDs, FSDs, user stories, process maps and traceability matrices.
- Experience in both Agile and Waterfall delivery environments.
- Excellent written and verbal English, with the ability to write specifications that a developer can build from without further explanation.
