Business Analyst – Fixed Term – Wellington
Mō tēnei tūranga - about the role
Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s People Branch is undertaking a programme of work to document, standardise and improve business processes across its directorates. This work will support operational efficiency, knowledge management, service consistency, future organisational change initiatives, and the development of improved service delivery models.
We are looking for an experienced Business Analyst to take a lead role in progressing this work. Working closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the people branch, you will understand how processes currently operate, document them accurately and consistently, and identify opportunities to simplify and improve the way work is undertaken.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Engaging with stakeholders and subject matter experts across People Branch directorates to understand end-to-end business processes.
- Facilitating workshops and interviews with subject matter experts to understand, document and validate current-state processes.
- Developing clear, accurate and consistent process maps using Microsoft Visio, BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) and swimlane modelling techniques.
- Documenting process steps, roles, responsibilities, decision points, hand-offs and dependencies.
- Identifying opportunities to simplify, streamline and improve business practices where appropriate
- Maintaining supporting documentation and contributing to a consistent repository of the People Branch business processes.
- Managing priorities and delivering agreed process mapping outputs within the fixed-term period.
This is a delivery-focused role requiring someone who can work independently, build effective stakeholder relationships and produce high-quality outputs within agreed timeframes.
The position is fixed term through to 30 June 2027, with an expected start as soon as practicable.
Our preference is for the successful candidate to be Wellington-based. However, we are open to considering candidates elsewhere in New Zealand who have the right skills and experience and can effectively engage with stakeholders across the organisation.
