Business Analyst

Harrison McMillan is seeking an experienced Business Analyst who is highly motivated, outcomes-focused, and demonstrates initiative, takes ownership, and drives work forward.

This is a long-term contract to 30 June 2027 with 12 month extension options and is based in Canberra. It is expected that the preferred candidate(s) will be on-site 2 days per week and interstate candidates will be on-site for quarterly planning events.

Due to the nature of this role, a Baseline security clearance is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships and trusted partnerships across business and technical teams.

  • Facilitate workshops, discussions and stakeholder engagement activities to understand business needs and align priorities.

  • Elicit, analyse and document business requirements, processes, user stories and acceptance criteria.

  • Drive activities forward by proactively identifying risks, issues, dependencies and opportunities, and working with stakeholders to resolve them.

  • Support planning activities including backlog management, business case development, roadmaps and delivery planning.

  • Communicate progress, insights, risks and recommendations to support effective decision-making.

  • Work across multiple concurrent initiatives while maintaining focus on outcomes and delivery.

  • Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, build trusted relationships, facilitate discussions, and bring people together to achieve outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, drive work forward, remove obstacles, identify opportunities, and deliver outcomes with minimal direction. Shows accountability, follow-through and a strong bias for action.

  • Demonstrated experience eliciting and documenting requirements, facilitating workshops, supporting delivery teams, and working effectively across multiple concurrent initiatives in Agile environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, build trust, contribute positively to team culture, support others, and create alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working on data, reporting, analytics or information management initiatives.

  • Ability to work closely with developers on technical requirements.

  • Experience with Dynamics 365, APIs, integrations, or system architecture.

  • Experience supporting strategic planning, business case development or delivery roadmaps.

  • Understanding of data governance, data quality or business intelligence concepts.

  • Experience working within government or other large, complex organisations.
