Business Analyst
Summary
A business analyst at Markinson (Brisbane) who elicits requirements for the MomentumPro ERP from wholesale-distribution customers and internal teams — running workshops, writing specifications, process maps and test cases, and running UAT through go-live. The role splits time between billable customer engagements and internal process projects.
Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 per year + Profit Share
About the role
You establish what customers and internal teams need from MomentumPro, and write it down precisely enough that a consultant or developer can build from it without a second conversation. You report to the Head of Service Delivery and split your time between billable customer engagements and internal projects. On the customer side that means workshops and site walkthroughs with warehouse managers, buyers, accounts staff and IT, then the written artefacts the delivery team builds from. Internally you apply the same discipline to internal systems, working alongside the manager who owns the process being rebuilt. Every requirement is tested against standard MomentumPro function before anyone contemplates an enhancement or a customisation. Where the standard product falls short, you judge whether the request belongs on the product roadmap or is a one-off for that customer, and you route it at the point it is raised.
Key responsibilities
Running workshops, site walkthroughs and interviews with customer staff and internal process owners
Separating what a business actually does from what its current system makes it do
Producing specifications, process maps, functional designs, data mappings, interface definitions and test cases
Tracing every requirement to a named business owner and getting it signed off before build starts
Running user acceptance testing and handing over at go-live, with configuration, known issues and open items recorded for the support team
Working to estimate on billable engagements, and raising a variance before the estimate is consumed
Recording what you learn about each customer's configuration so it survives a change of consultant
About you
Three or more years as a business analyst on an operational system: ERP, warehouse management, field service or point of sale
Working command of an operational data model: inventory, purchasing, pricing, sales orders, warehousing and the ledger they post to
Enough practical accounting to follow a transaction from order through to the ledger, and to question a figure that cannot be right until it reconciles
Writing that a developer and a customer can both read and agree on, with the ambiguity taken out of it
The ability to sit with someone who knows their own job and not yours, and come away with a specification they recognise as their process
The ability to tell a customer a request is out of scope and keep the relationship
Organised across several concurrent engagements, and reliable on commitments made in writing
A tertiary qualification in information systems, business, commerce, accounting or information technology, or equivalent experience
Australian work rights and a current driver licence are required
