Business Analyst

We are hiring a Business Analyst to join melyn's Empower Services team. This is a grant-writing-heavy role at the intersection of research, financial analysis, and client advisory. You will help First Nations communities across Canada secure funding through federal and provincial programs by building the analysis, financial models, and written applications that win. This is not a back-office support role. You will work directly with our leadership team on live mandates, own complete pieces of work, and see your analysis translate into real funding outcomes for community priorities.

Responsibilities:

• Research federal and provincial funding programs to identify the best fit for client projects.
• Draft funding applications, concept papers, project briefs, and supporting documentation.
• Build financial models, including project budgets, cash flow forecasts, funding stacks, and ROI analyses in Excel.
• Synthesize client information (interviews, financial statements, existing documents) into structured, fundable narratives.
• Conduct deep research on First Nations communities, market opportunities, and project feasibility.
• Review and quality check applications before submission.
• Track submissions, deadlines, and funder requirements across an active pipeline.
• Build internal tooling and templates that scale our work.

Requirements:

• 1 to 5 years of experience in management consulting, development consulting, policy research, grant writing, or a comparable analytical role.
• Strong written English with the ability to write persuasively and clearly.
• Advanced Excel skills (financial modeling, budget building, formulas, pivot tables).
• Sharp research skills and the ability to synthesise complex information quickly.
• Comfortable working autonomously and managing multiple deadlines.
• Willingness to work North American hours consistently.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with proposal writing for government, foundations, or development donors.
• Familiarity with Canadian Indigenous policy, federal funding programs, or social impact consulting.
• Experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT) in a professional workflow.
