The opportunity - Te āheinga

We're looking for an experienced Business Analyst to join our Digital Enablement team on a three-year fixed-term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering organisational and digital transformation across Council. You'll work on a diverse portfolio of strategic and operational initiatives, helping improve services, streamline business processes, support major projects and maximise the value of our technology investments.

We are seeking an experienced practitioner who can bring depth of capability, lead complex analysis work, confidently engage with stakeholders across the organisation, and help mentor and support less experienced team members.

This role offers the opportunity to influence meaningful change across the organisation while working alongside a collaborative team that is passionate about continuous improvement and delivering great outcomes for our community.

This role is based in New Plymouth and involves working closely with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation. We are therefore seeking someone who is either already based in the region or willing to relocate to New Plymouth.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua

  • Lead business analysis activities across a broad range of projects and organisational initiatives
  • Facilitate workshops and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Analyse and document business processes, requirements and opportunities for improvement
  • Translate business needs into clear and actionable requirements and recommendations
  • Support solution design, implementation and business change activities
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Product Owners, vendors and subject matter experts
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, customer experience and service delivery
  • Mentor and support less experienced Business Analysts within the team

Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

We are looking for a practical, experienced Business Analyst who enjoys solving problems, building strong relationships and delivering meaningful organisational outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience as a Business Analyst in complex organisational environments
  • Proven experience leading requirements gathering, process improvement and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Strong facilitation, communication and influencing skills
  • Experience working across multiple projects and competing priorities
  • The ability to challenge constructively and provide trusted advice to stakeholders
  • Experience supporting business transformation, technology implementation or organisational change initiatives
  • Strong analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior analysts would be highly regarded

Please note: we are specifically seeking an experienced Business Analyst for this position. This role is not suitable for graduates, entry-level applicants or those looking to move into business analysis for the first time. We are looking for someone who can quickly establish credibility, work independently and provide senior capability within the team from day one.

You can expect to start in this three-year fixed-term, full-time role with a salary of between $98,785 - $106,467
