Job Summary

The Business Analyst helps NIJC understand and improve the work of its legal programs - turning qualitative legal work into quantitative performance metrics that show how programs are performing, how staff workloads are distributed, and what results clients are achieving. This role builds and maintains dashboards for management and leadership, standardizes how NIJC uses its legal case management system (LegalServer) across programs, and ensures grant and funder reporting requirements are met. The Business Analyst reports to the Director of Data and System Management and works closely with program leadership, managers, and staff to keep data accurate, consistent, and useful for decision-making. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Define Metrics: Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) covering case volume and workload (active cases, intake conversion, caseload balance across attorneys and staff), efficiency (average time to close, cost per closed case), case outcomes (relief granted, case results by program and type), and client experience (satisfaction scores, feedback trends).
• Standardize LegalServer Use: Own data standards and consistent data-entry practices across programs in LegalServer - defining required fields, naming conventions, and workflows so data entered by different teams can be reliably compared and reported on. Audit records regularly and train staff on standards.
• Grant Reporting: Design standardized data collection processes to efficiently track and report required quantitative outcomes to institutional funders.
• Analyze Workflows and Workload: Map the intake-to-resolution pipeline to identify bottlenecks, reduce time to serve a client, and understand how work is distributed across attorneys and staff so caseloads stay balanced and sustainable.
• Track Case Results: Build reporting on case outcomes and results - not just volume - so leadership can see the impact of NIJC's legal work by program, office, and case type.
• Client Experience: Develop lightweight ways to capture and track client feedback and satisfaction, balancing the need for data with respect for client trauma and staff capacity.
• Data Visualization: Create and maintain dashboards showing caseloads, active cases, case outcomes, client experience, demographic trends, and geographic service gaps for management and leadership.
• Gather Requirements: Interview stakeholders and translate high-level program and leadership goals into precise technical and reporting needs for data and management teams.
• Support Implementation: Assist with testing, change management, and user training as workflows and dashboards evolve.
• Reporting Cadence: Provide leadership with timely reviews of program activity and impact, including monthly program metrics, file audits, and analysis, with recommendations for course corrections or continuations.
• Conform with and abide by all internal and external applicable regulations, policies, and contractual guidelines and obligations.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 3+ years of proven data analytics and process improvement, preferably within a non-profit, legal aid, or public interest sector.
• Technical Skills: Experience configuring or pulling data from legal case management software (such as LegalServer, Clio, or Filevine). Proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Airtable) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
• Project Management: Skilled in end-to-end project management.

Core Soft Skills

• Empathy: Ability to design data tracking systems that respect client trauma and do not overburden busy legal staff.
• Translation: Skill in explaining the value of quantitative data to mission-driven lawyers who prioritize qualitative client outcomes.
• Data Integrity: Strict adherence to data security and confidentiality protocols, including attorney-client privilege boundaries.
