About the opportunity

Port of Tauranga is New Zealand's largest port and international freight gateway. Our Tauranga Container Terminal at Sulphur Point offers a 24-hour, seven-day service for ship planning, ship operations, marshalling, on-board stevedoring and reefer services.

As we continue to invest in automation, digital transformation, operational technology and world-class terminal operations, we are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join our Digital Services team.

This is not a traditional Business Analyst role. You will have the chance to help turn complex operational problems into practical solutions that deliver real value to the business. In this role you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver strategic initiatives including terminal operations, logistics, cyber security, infrastructure, enterprise systems, data and automation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Partnering with business stakeholders to understand, analyse and document business requirements

  • Leading discovery activities with operational and business stakeholders to understand underlying problems, opportunities and drivers for change

  • Translating needs into functional specifications, user stories and process flows

  • Supporting discovery phases and contributing to solution design across digital, automation and data projects

  • Analysing end-to-end business processes, value streams and operational workflows to identify improvement opportunities, reduce complexity and improve customer and business outcomes

  • Working closely with project managers, developers, engineers and vendors to ensure quality delivery

  • Supporting testing, user acceptance and change activities to ensure solutions deliver real value

What you’ll bring

Essential experience and capability

· 7+ years’ of Business Analysis experience across complex technology, digital or transformation programmes

· Proven experience in requirements gathering, process mapping, functional documentation and user stories

· Strong workshop design, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, including confidence working with senior leaders

· A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and end-to-end project delivery

· Experience contributing to options analysis, benefits definition or business case development

· Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to make complex information clear and actionable (with technical and non-technical stakeholders)

· Ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels and manage competing perspectives to achieve alignment and decision making

· A customer-focused mindset and commitment to high quality outcomes

Highly desirable

· Relevant industry experience in relation to ports, logistics, supply chain or similar environments are advantageous.

· Exposure to operational technology, automation or AI initiatives will be highly regarded

· Experience with ERP, enterprise asset management, warehouse management, terminal operating or other complex enterprise platforms.

· Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft DevOps, Confluence and Teams.

· A recognised Business Analysis qualification or professional certification.
