Business Analyst
Summary
Business Analyst serving as the functional applications partner for PowerGrid Services departments — analyzing business processes, defining requirements, and improving data handoffs across D365 F&O, Salesforce, OneStream, Fleetio, Samsara, and Novara-Flex. Heavy advanced-Excel reporting and modeling; coding is not required.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Analyst serves as the primary functional applications partner for PowerGrid Services (PGS) departments, translating business processes and requirements into effective application solutions. The role supports PGS’s core business applications (Novara-Flex, Fleetio, Samsara, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O), OneStream, Salesforce, and Excel), the handoffs between them, and related reporting and analysis needs from discovery through testing and adoption. This position works directly with Operations, Fleet, Finance, and Sales stakeholders, uses advanced Excel to transform and model business data, and helps improve process efficiency, data quality, reporting accuracy, and downstream handoffs between applications. The position works independently within established priorities and recommends solutions on matters of significance to the organization’s operations; significant changes are agreed upon with leadership before implementation. This is a business-focused role; programming or software development experience is not required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary Business Analyst for PGS application initiatives, partnering with department leaders across Operations, Fleet, Finance, and Sales to understand priorities and desired business outcomes.
- Analyze current-state and future-state business processes across PGS applications, identify gaps, inefficiencies, and manual workarounds, and recommend improvements.
- Translate business objectives into requirements, process flows, business rules, user stories, acceptance criteria, data definitions, integration requirements, and measurable success criteria.
- Perform functional analysis and support solution design across Novara-Flex, Fleetio, Samsara, D365 F&O, OneStream, and Salesforce, evaluating alternatives by cost, risk, and business priority and presenting recommendations to leadership for agreement.
- Serve as the business owner and subject matter expert for PGS applications, defining user access needs, roles, approval workflows, and business controls, and configuring workflows, business rules, and reports using each application’s standard tools.
- Define and document functional requirements across Novara-Flex, Fleetio, Samsara, D365 F&O, OneStream, and Salesforce that support operational, fleet, finance, and sales processes, such as project and job setup, vehicle and asset tracking, financial dimensions, invoicing, consolidation, planning, and reporting; partner with department stakeholders and application vendors on configuration, data mapping, and testing.
- Support data governance by defining ownership, required fields, quality rules, and consistent business definitions for fleet, vehicle, project, revenue, margin, backlog, and forecast information across PGS applications.
- Plan, lead, and coordinate business improvement and cross-departmental projects from initiation through closeout, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource planning, and report status, risks, and recommendations to management.
- Plan and coordinate user acceptance testing, regression testing, defect review, release readiness, training, communications, and adoption activities for application upgrades, releases, and enhancements.
- Use advanced Microsoft Excel to transform and clean business data, build dynamic reports and models, perform scenario analysis, reconcile information across applications, and present findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Analyze handoffs and integrations among PGS applications, such as fleet and vehicle data in Fleetio and Samsara, financial data in D365 F&O and OneStream, customer and pipeline data in Salesforce, and operational data in Novara-Flex; identify breakdowns that create duplicate entry, missing information, delayed work, or inconsistent reporting.
- Maintain and prioritize the application improvement backlog using business value, revenue impact, process risk, dependencies, effort, data readiness, and adoption capacity.
- Serve as an escalation resource for complex business application questions requiring analysis and process judgment, and provide input to application planning, vendor evaluation, and roadmap decisions; routine user support is not a primary function of this role.
- Create and maintain process documentation, decision records, training materials, testing scenarios, release communications, and user guidance that support application adoption and consistent business processes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, operations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. 4+ years of progressive experience in business analysis, business process improvement, finance or operations, application ownership, or project management. Demonstrated experience working with enterprise business applications such as ERP, CRM, fleet management, or financial reporting and planning platforms, and translating business processes into application requirements and coordinating cross-functional changes is required. Experience in the construction or utilities industries, and experience supporting safety and fleet departments, is preferred. Relevant certifications such as Salesforce Certified Administrator or a Dynamics 365 Finance functional consultant certification are preferred.
PLATFORM & APPLICATION EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have strong functional experience with enterprise business applications and their related business processes. Experience with D365 F&O, Salesforce, OneStream, Fleetio, Samsara, or Novara-Flex is preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required, with emphasis on data transformation, dynamic modeling, scenario analysis, reconciliation, and clear presentation of business information. Expected Excel capabilities include advanced formulas and lookup logic, PivotTables/PivotCharts, dynamic arrays, Power Query or comparable transformation techniques, and structured models for reporting, forecasting, and analysis. Power BI exposure is a nice-to-have rather than a core requirement. Coding is not required, but the ability to work effectively with application vendors and support partners is expected.
