Business Analyst Retail
The Retail Business Analyst gathers, analyses and formalises the functional requirements of retail clients in order to translate them into actionable requirements for technical teams. They also contribute to defining the target solution, steering implementation activities and, depending on the context, coordinating the development team or partners involved in the integration.
Main responsibilities :
- Understand the client’s business challenges related to store processes, checkout, sales flows and interactions between the POS and other systems within the retail information system.
- Take part in pre-sales phases by supporting sales teams in qualifying needs, defining the functional scope and building the response.
- Facilitate workshops with the client to capture, challenge and prioritise functional and operational requirements relating to infrastructure/cloud, network, database and specific development topics.
- Prepare scoping deliverables, including business requirements, specifications documents, functional specifications, user stories, target processes and business rules.
- Translate business needs into clear requirements for development teams, integration teams or partner software vendors.
- Contribute to solution design, ensuring alignment with the client’s business, technical and operational constraints.
- Monitor delivery progress, coordinate stakeholders and ensure proper execution through to go-live.
- Take part in acceptance testing, integration testing, business validation and deployment support phases.
- Where applicable, organise and lead the development team or the functional workstream associated with the project.
Day-to-day activities :
- Organising and facilitating discovery and scoping workshops with clients.
- Analysing flows between the POS, payments, stock, product master data, CRM or e-commerce platforms.
- Formalising requirements in functional documents or project tools.
- Coordinating with developers, testers, project managers, architects and external partners.
- Monitoring risks, functional decisions, priorities and delivery planning.
Possible functional scope :
- Depending on the project, the scope may cover checkout, promotions, payment methods, returns, loyalty programmes, omnichannel flows, interfaces with ERP, e-commerce or inventory management tools. The environments mentioned in the observed offers notably include enterprise POS solutions and their integrations with adjacent retail systems.
Business and functional skills :
- Good understanding of store retail and omnichannel processes.
- Experience with point-of-sale solutions and their integrations.
- Ability to write structured and actionable functional specifications.
- Proficiency in requirements-gathering workshops, process modelling and acceptance testing.
- Knowledge of Agile project environments, Jira or equivalent tools would be appreciated.
