Business Analyst
Summary
Business Analyst at a Sydney software solutions firm, acting as the bridge between clients, sales, and technical delivery teams — gathering requirements, writing specs and user stories, and keeping projects on scope from discovery through delivery. Working knowledge of Java and PostgreSQL expected; AWS, REST APIs and Power BI are a plus.
Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 per year
About the role
As our Business Analyst, you will be the link between our clients, our Sales team and our technical delivery teams. You will turn client needs into clear, delivery-ready requirements and keep projects on scope from discovery to delivery.
This is a client-facing, highly collaborative role. You will work closely with Sales, Project Managers, Developers, Designers, QA and external stakeholders across the full project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate is commercially aware, technically confident and highly organised. You can balance client expectations with practical delivery outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
Discovery and requirements
• Work with Sales and stakeholders during project discovery and solution discussions.
• Gather, analyse and document business and technical requirements.
• Translate client requirements into clear functional specifications, user stories and delivery-ready documentation.
• Facilitate workshops, requirement sessions, solution reviews and client meetings.
Solution and delivery
• Work with technical teams to validate feasibility and recommend practical solutions.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and development teams to keep execution aligned with what was agreed.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, QA and external stakeholders.
• Support backlog prioritisation, sprint planning and delivery coordination.
Scope, risk and change
• Identify project risks, scope gaps, dependencies and delivery challenges early.
• Assess change requests, clarify scope and analyse delivery impact.
• Support issue resolution and delivery escalations where required.
Clients and continuous improvement
• Manage stakeholder expectations and maintain strong, ongoing client relationships.
• Contribute to process improvements across product delivery and client engagement.
Skills and experience
Essential
• 4+ years’ experience in business analysis, product management, technical delivery or a similar role.
• Strong experience working directly with clients and technical delivery teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and stakeholders at once.
• Confidence to challenge assumptions and proactively drive outcomes.
• Experience on software projects across multiple disciplines (such as Java, PostgreSQL and mobile-responsive apps), with enough working knowledge of Java and PostgreSQL to collaborate closely with developers. Hands-on coding is not required.
Desirable
• Exposure to AWS, SaaS, REST APIs, reporting and Power BI dashboards.
• Experience working with offshore or cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency in written and spoken Mandarin.
