Business Applications Web Developer
Location: Head Office, Orsett, Essex
Employment Type: Full-time
About the role
We are looking for a motivated Junior Business Applications Web Developer to join our IT team, working closely with our senior developer to build, maintain and enhance internally developed business systems.
Our solutions are predominantly web-based, using technologies including C#, .NET, JavaScript and SQL Server, with opportunities to work across system integrations, APIs, automation and wider application development.
This is an ideal role for someone at the early stages of their development career who already has a good technical foundation and is looking to build practical experience working on real-world business systems.
You will be involved throughout the development lifecycle, working directly with colleagues across the business to understand requirements and turn them into practical solutions.
What you'll be doing
· Assisting in the development of internal web applications and business systems.
· Supporting the maintenance, improvement and enhancement of existing systems.
· Writing clean, efficient and well-documented code.
· Working with SQL Server databases and data-driven applications.
· Designing, building and consuming REST APIs and other web services.
· Supporting integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms.
· Using version control and development pipelines as part of the development process.
· Helping identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
· Testing and troubleshooting applications to ensure solutions are reliable and fit for purpose.
· Collaborating with the wider IT team and colleagues across the business to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
Essential experience and skills
We're looking for someone with:
· Practical development experience with C#, JavaScript and .NET, gained through employment, placements, substantial personal projects or formal study.
· Experience working with SQL Server.
· Familiarity with REST APIs.
· An understanding of version control systems such as Git.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· A self-motivated approach with a willingness to learn, develop and take on new challenges.
We don't expect a junior developer to know everything from day one. What's important is that you have a solid technical foundation, can demonstrate practical development skills and are keen to continue developing them in a professional environment.
Desirable
It would be beneficial, but not essential, to have:
· Knowledge or experience of modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular or similar.
What we offer
You'll be joining an established IT team and will have the opportunity to work on genuine business projects from an early stage.
The role offers:
· Hands-on experience developing systems that are actively used across the business.
· Mentoring and support from an experienced senior developer.
· Exposure to a broad range of technologies, systems and business processes.
· Opportunities to work on integrations, automation and new development projects.
· Structured learning and ongoing professional development.
· The opportunity to take on greater responsibility as your experience develops.
· A supportive environment where ideas and continuous improvement are encouraged.
Who we're looking for
We're not necessarily looking for someone with years of commercial development experience.
This role would suit someone who has already developed a good foundation in software development and now wants to apply those skills in a professional environment, or an existing junior developer looking for broader exposure and responsibility.
You'll need to be comfortable solving problems, asking questions and learning new technologies. Just as importantly, you'll need to be able to understand the business problem behind the code, as many of the systems we develop are designed to improve real operational processes.
