Welcome to SSC Space, an exciting workplace for those passionate about science and technology in general, and space in particular.
With space organizations, research institutes, institutional and commercial actors as customers, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communications, space consulting services, rocket and balloon systems, flight test services, satellite propulsion systems, and much more.
SSC Space also has one of the world’s largest global networks of ground stations for satellite communications. We own and operate the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, northern Sweden, with the aim of launching satellites in the near future.

For more than 50 years, SSC Space has been a leading provider of sounding rocket and stratospheric balloon launches from Esrange Space Center. We are now looking for a Business Development Engineer who wants to help develop the next chapter of this business.
This is a technically oriented business development role where you will combine customer engagement, commercial development and technical coordination. You will build relationships with existing and potential customers and develop business opportunities connected to student programs, sounding rockets and stratospheric balloons.

You will be involved throughout the sales process, from identifying opportunities and shaping service offerings to developing proposals, negotiating contracts and supporting long-term customer relationships. The role has an international scope and includes customer visits, conferences and collaboration with technical experts across SSC Space.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with existing and potential customers.
  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities within science and research in space.
  • Develop and expand business related to student programs, sounding rockets and stratospheric balloons.
  • Understand customer needs and translate them into relevant service offerings and technical solutions.
  • Coordinate commercial and technical input from specialists across SSC Space.
  • Manage sales opportunities throughout the full process, from initial customer dialogue to proposal, negotiation and contract closure.
  • Prepare proposals, presentations and other customer-facing material.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular status reports and forecasts.
  • Visit customers internationally and represent SSC Space at conferences, meetings and industry events.
  • Contribute to both short-term sales activities and long-term business planning.

Requirements

We believe you are commercially minded, technically curious and comfortable building relationships across different cultures and professional environments. You can contribute to technical discussions while maintaining a clear focus on customer needs and business opportunities.

You also have:
  • A university degree in engineering, science or another relevant technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • The ability to understand technical concepts and communicate them clearly to different audiences.
  • Strong business acumen and an interest in developing commercially viable solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several activities and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach and the ability to move opportunities forward.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • A genuine interest in science, technology and space.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
Swedish language skills and previous experience in business development, technical sales or another customer-facing commercial role are considered an advantage.
As the role involves international customer engagement, you should be willing and able to travel regularly.

Benefits

We offer you
  • A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry.
  • An excellent opportunity for personal and career development.
  • An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees all over the world.

Additional benefits
  • In addition to vacation and traditional public holidays, we offer extra paid leave throughout the year, such as time off between Christmas and New Year, Ascension Day, amounting to 6-11 extra days depending on the calendar.
  • Wellness allowance of SEK 5,000 per year.
  • Health benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees.
  • Access to a benefit bike through a tax-efficient leasing program.
  • Support for employee-driven activities that promote connection, health, and culture across teams.
  • Collective Agreement, including good pensions plans, parental pay, and insurance.

Location
This is a full-time, permanent position based at Esrange Space Center outside of Kiruna.
