Business Development Manager

Location: Hybrid – Leicester
Salary & Commission: Competitive base + uncapped commission (OTE 2.5x base)

If you're an experienced business development professional who enjoys winning new business, building lasting client relationships and seeing a deal through from first conversation to signed contract, we'd like to hear from you.

We're looking for someone who understands the energy and sustainability market and is ready to hit the ground running. This is a genuine new business role where you'll be responsible for creating opportunities, developing your own pipeline and managing the full sales cycle.

At Consultus, we help organisations make informed energy decisions. Our clients include large commercial organisations across a range of sectors, all looking to reduce costs, improve resilience and meet increasingly ambitious sustainability goals. You'll be introducing them to solutions that make a real difference, backed by over 30 years of expertise and a team of specialists who are there to support you throughout the sales process.

What you'll be doing

You'll be identifying and engaging prospective clients, building relationships with key decision-makers and uncovering opportunities where Consultus can add value.

From your first conversation through to proposal, negotiation and close, you'll take ownership of the sales process, working closely with our technical consultants to develop solutions that meet each client's needs. Once a client comes on board, you'll ensure a smooth handover while continuing to build long-term relationships that create future opportunities.

What you'll be selling

One of the biggest advantages of this role is the breadth of solutions you'll be able to offer your clients. Rather than focusing on a single service, you'll be supporting organisations with everything from energy procurement and compliance through to Net Zero strategy, renewable technologies and long-term energy management solutions. It means you can build deeper relationships, uncover opportunities across different areas of a client's business and become a trusted adviser rather than simply selling a product.

You'll have the opportunity to introduce clients to services including:

Sustainability and Net Zero Consulting:

  • Net Zero Pathways (Scopes 1, 2 & 3)

  • ESOS, SECR and other compliance reporting

  • Virtual Energy Management

  • Cultural and behavioural change programmes

Technology and Implementation:

  • Solar PV, Wind and Battery Storage

  • EV Charging Infrastructure

  • LED Lighting and Low Carbon Heating Solutions

Energy Procurement:

  • Electricity, Gas and Water contracts

  • Risk management strategies

  • Bureau and bill validation services

  • Metering and PPA support

This breadth of services means you won't be trying to fit every client into the same solution. Instead, you'll work consultatively to understand their objectives and recommend the right approach.

What we're looking for

We're interested in people who are naturally curious, commercially aware and enjoy developing new business.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in B2B sales within the energy or sustainability sector

  • A strong understanding of the solutions outlined above

  • A track record of working with mid to large-sized organisations, including at senior decision-making levels (e.g. CFO, FD, Directors)

  • The ability to ask the right questions, listen well, and identify how we can help

  • Confidence in managing their own pipeline and activity, with support from the wider team

  • Clear communication skills and a structured approach to managing work

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Experience launching new services into the market

  • Experience working with partners and building referral networks

  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of how businesses make decisions around energy and carbon

Why join Consultus?

This is an opportunity to join a business with an established reputation in the energy and sustainability sector, where you'll have the freedom to develop your own pipeline while being supported by experienced technical teams and marketing colleagues.

You'll be selling solutions that help organisations reduce costs, improve efficiency and achieve their sustainability ambitions, giving you the opportunity to build long-term client relationships rather than focusing on one-off transactions.

As we continue to grow, there will be opportunities to develop your career and play a key role in bringing new clients into the business.

If you enjoy opening new doors, building trusted relationships and want to work for a business where expertise and integrity matter, we'd love to hear from you.

We encourage suitable applications from a diverse array of talent. For more information about our Disability Confident Commitment, please visit Unfortunately, because we are unable to offer VISA sponsorship for this position, all applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
