Business Development Manager

Specific Job Role/Scope:

  • To drive profitable freight business growth through new customer acquisition, corporate account development and retention, increased shipment volume and revenue, and professional end to end customer service.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop new business by prospecting, generating leads, following up on enquiries and quotations, and converting prospects into profitable customers.

  • Manage and develop corporate accounts, maintaining strong relationships and identifying opportunities to increase revenue, shipment volume, and customer retention.

  • Prepare and negotiate freight quotations, rates, and commercial terms within approved authority and profitability guidelines.

  • Achieve agreed sales, revenue, gross profit, and new customer targets.

  • Coordinate closely with Customer Service, Operation, Finance, overseas agents, airlines, shipping lines, and partners to ensure customers' air and sea freight requirements are met.

  • Monitor customer requirements and shipment activities, resolving service issues promptly and proactively.

  • Conduct customer visits and business reviews and identify cross-selling and up-selling opportunities.

  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and submit monthly sales and account development report to management.

  • Keep abreast of freight market trends, competitor activities, rates, and new business opportunities.

  • Undertake other sales, account development, and business assignments as directed by management.

Authority & Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and issue customer quotations, selling rates, and handling charges within approved limits.

  • Recommend customer credit terms/limits, subject to company policy and approval.

  • Conduct customer entertainment and business meetings within approved limits.

  • Follow up customer payments where authorized.

  • Sign approved customer documents within delegated authority.

  • Liaise directly with overseas agents, partners, carriers, and service providers on customer requirements and business opportunities.

Additional Tasks Assigned (if any)

  • Assigned as and when needed by the Head of Department.


Job Requirements:

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Business. Logistics, Marketing, or related discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in Sales and Business Development, preferably within logistics/freight forwarding industry.

  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of air and sea freight, logistics services, and freight forwarding sales.

  • Communication: Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and customer relationship management skills.

  • Sales Skills: Training or certificate in sales, telemarketing, negotiation, or related areas will be an advantage.

  • Personal Attributes: Proactive, results-oriented, customer-focused, and commercially driven; able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
