Business Development Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for increasing the quantity, quality, consistency, and accessibility of donated goods across the Agency’s service territory. This position develops and executes donation acquisition strategies, identifies and secures donation sites and community partnerships, supports Donation Centers and Donation Express locations, and works closely with Donated Goods, Retail Operations, Transportation, Marketing, Finance, and Workforce Development to ensure donated goods flow supports sales growth, mission impact, donor satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Develop, implement, and maintain an Agency-wide donation acquisition strategy that supports retail revenue growth, donor satisfaction, store self-sufficiency, and mission impact.

Research, identify, evaluate, and recommend new donation sites, ADCs, Donation Express locations, community collection points, and partnership opportunities based on donor access, volume potential, safety, cost, logistics, and return on investment.

Coordinate leasing activity, site documentation, landlord communication, permits, insurance requirements and operating expectations for donation sites in partnership with Agency leadership and appropriate administrative departments.

Create donation opportunities through corporate donation drives, community events, business partnerships, nonprofit collaborations, neighborhood campaigns, and other supplemental donation models.

Monitor assigned donation sites and donation programs to ensure safe, secure, clean, donor-friendly and efficient operations, including proper opening and closing routines, site appearance, material handling, traffic flow, signage, supplies, and communication with Operations and Transportation.

Solicit, develop, and maintain commercial donor accounts, recurring material donation partners, and high-value donation sources throughout the Agency’s territory.

Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, businesses, property owners, community partners, municipalities, service organizations, and internal departments to increase donation volume and strengthen community trust.

Maintain accurate records and reporting for donor contacts, donation drives, site performance, donor counts, donation volume, site issues, partner activity and follow-up actions.

Analyze donation acquisition performance, including donor count, quality of donations, site productivity, logistics needs, and cost effectiveness; recommend corrective actions when goals are not being met.

Partner with CEO to increase public awareness of donation opportunities, accepted donation standards, donor convenience, and the connection between donated goods and Goodwill’s mission services.

Coordinate with Transportation, Retail Operations, and Distribution Center leadership to support trailer capacity, timely service, site checks, supply needs, routing concerns, and material flow from point of donation through processing and sales.

Support Agency safety, security, loss prevention, audit, OSHA/IIPP, and environmental compliance expectations related to donation sites and donated goods handling.

Prepare regular updates for leadership on donation acquisition activity, site performance, partnership development, emerging risks, opportunities, and progress toward donation growth goals.

Regular attendance is required to ensure that essential functions of the job are met.

SECONDARY DUTIES

Support special projects related to donated goods growth, new or relocated donation sites, donor engagement campaigns, retail openings, community partnerships, and other potential business expansion opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned.
