Business Development Manager
NewBe an early applicantThe Business Development Manager will assume overall responsibility for the management, commercial development and day-to-day operation of the retail outlet. The successful candidate will be accountable for the store’s operational efficiency, sales performance, inventory management, manpower deployment, customer service standards, supplier coordination, financial monitoring and implementation of business growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the overall management and daily operations of the retail outlet, ensuring smooth, efficient and profitable business operations.
- Develop, implement and continuously review business development strategies to increase revenue, improve profitability, expand the customer base and strengthen the company’s market position.
- Analyse sales trends, customer purchasing behaviour, product performance and market conditions to identify new business opportunities and recommend appropriate commercial strategies.
- Establish and monitor monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets, operational KPIs and performance objectives, and implement corrective measures where necessary.
- Manage the complete inventory cycle, including stock planning, purchasing requirements, stock replenishment, inventory movement, stock-taking, damaged or expired goods control and prevention of stock discrepancies.
- Coordinate and negotiate with suppliers and vendors on pricing, product availability, purchasing terms, delivery schedules, promotional support and other commercial arrangements.
- Review product assortment, pricing strategy, profit margins and promotional activities to maximise sales performance while maintaining appropriate stock levels and profitability.
- Oversee daily sales reconciliation, cash-handling controls, payment transactions, sales reports, inventory reports, invoices, purchase records and other operational documentation.
- Monitor operating expenses, purchasing costs, product margins and store profitability and provide management with regular operational and financial performance reports.
- Plan manpower requirements, prepare staff deployment and duty schedules and supervise the performance of retail employees to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
- Recruit, train, guide and evaluate employees and establish appropriate procedures for customer service, merchandising, stock handling, cashiering, workplace safety and operational compliance.
- Ensure merchandise is properly displayed, priced and replenished and maintain appropriate store layout, product presentation and merchandising standards.
- Handle complex customer enquiries, complaints, service recovery matters and operational issues and ensure that customer service standards are consistently maintained.
- Establish and maintain internal controls and standard operating procedures covering cash management, inventory control, receiving of goods, loss prevention, store opening and closing procedures and daily operational reporting.
- Identify operational risks, irregularities and process weaknesses and implement appropriate preventive and corrective measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Singapore laws, regulatory requirements, workplace safety requirements and internal company policies relating to retail operations.
- Coordinate promotional programmes, seasonal campaigns, new product launches and other sales initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness and commercial results.
- Develop relationships with customers, suppliers, business partners and other relevant stakeholders to support the company’s long-term business development.
- Prepare regular management reports covering sales performance, inventory status, staff productivity, operational issues, market developments and recommendations for business improvement.
- Undertake overall responsibility for resolving day-to-day operational problems and make timely management decisions to ensure uninterrupted store operations.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in business development, retail operations, store management, administration or related functions.
- Strong knowledge of retail operations, inventory management, sales administration and customer service.
- Ability to independently manage the complete operation of a retail outlet.
- Strong analytical, organisational, leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to manage multiple operational priorities and work under pressure.
- Strong communication, staff-management and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience in sales reporting, inventory control, financial reconciliation and operational administration will be an advantage.
