Business Development - Special Education Services (K-12)

  • Location: Remote – United States
  • Base Pay: $95,000/year base + 6% uncapped commission, Target First-Year OTE: $145,000+
  • Job Category: Business Development, Sales
  • Industry: K-12 Special Education Services
  • Employee Type: Full Time – Exempt
  • Travel: 20% (district visits and industry conferences)

About the Role

Results Learning is hiring a business development professional to lead new-client growth in special education - compensatory services, case management, direct instruction, and related compliance-driven programs - with room to pursue regular-education and Title I opportunities opportunistically.

This is a relationship-first, hunter role: high-volume, consistent outreach to special education directors and district leaders, well before an RFP is issued. You'll build the trust and positioning that gets Results Learning a seat at the table ahead of formal procurement - and you'll help define the cadence, tools, and playbook a future BD team will be built around.

What You'll Do

  • Build sustained, high-touch relationships with special education directors, compliance officers, and district leadership - your primary hunting ground.
  • Maintain a disciplined, high-volume outreach cadence across calls, email, in-person visits, and conferences.
  • Position Results Learning ahead of competitive bids through needs discovery and value-based conversations, before RFPs are issued.
  • Pursue regular-education and Title I tutoring opportunities opportunistically, without displacing the special ed focus.
  • Partner with the internal team on proposal development, program design input, and pricing strategy once RFPs emerge from relationships already built.
  • Represent Results Learning at key special education and district-leadership conferences, including major fall industry events.
  • Track relationship stages and touches rigorously enough to support forecasting and a future team hand-off.

What Success Looks Like

  • $1,000,000 in booked business, year one
  • A consistently active pipeline of special-ed relationships in progress - not just RFP responses in flight.
  • Meetings and positioning conversations secured before RFPs are issued, not after.
  • New-client bookings that reflect real relationship equity, not one-off wins.
  • Over time, a documented cadence, messaging approach, and toolkit that becomes the foundation for a broader BD team.

Resources This Role Starts With

  • An AI-assisted cold email/prospecting system and a Prospect Intelligence Generator that auto-builds prospect briefings.
  • A proven six-touch outreach campaign concept targeting special education directors under Corrective Action Plans.
  • A value-added services guide tiered by contract size, built specifically for sales conversations.
  • An existing pipeline and relationship base in Prince George's County, MD and other in-market districts to build from.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $95,000 base salary + 6% uncapped commission (target first-year OTE: $145,000+)
  • Medical / Dental / Vision
  • PTO / Floating Holidays
  • 401(k)

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of quota-carrying, consultative sales experience - ideally selling services or solutions into school districts, public-sector, or other complex, multi-stakeholder B2B/B2G environments.
  • A demonstrated track record of high-volume outbound activity as a sustained habit, not occasional effort - and of converting that activity into a real, forecastable pipeline.
  • Experience building trust and value with prospects well ahead of a formal procurement process, not just responding to RFPs after the fact.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn the special education compliance and funding landscape (IDEA, Title I, compensatory services, and related funding streams) - we'll train on this.

Preferred

  • Existing experience selling into special education departments, or a professional background in special education (administration, compliance, or related services) with a transition into business development.
  • An existing network of special education directors, district administrators, or related decision-makers.
  • Experience navigating public-sector procurement (RFPs, MWBE requirements, multi-year contracts).
  • Prior experience building a business development function inside a small, lean organization.
