Job Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst turns TMG’s business data into clear Power BI dashboards, reliable reports, and actionable insights that improve financial and operational decision-making. Reporting to the Business Systems & Technology Manager, this role partners with leaders to define meaningful measures and brings fresh ideas to how TMG presents and uses data. This position upholds TMG’s Mission and Core Values by demonstrating integrity, accountability, respect, continuous learning, and follow-through in daily work. At TMG, how we work matters as much as what we achieve, and team members are expected to model these values through their actions and relationships.

This includes following the Good Path, Aiming High, Honoring the Circle, Nurturing a Good Mind, and Holding the Fire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders and departments to understand business objectives and identify key performance indicators. Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards that use clear visual hierarchy, navigation, filtering, and drill-through to make information easy to understand and act upon.
  • Bring new dashboard concepts, visualizations, and analytical approaches to TMG, and evaluate existing reports to simplify, consolidate, or modernize them.
  • Use SQL, Power Query, and DAX to prepare data, create calculated measures, and build reusable, scalable data models that support consistent reporting across departments, companies, and locations.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, exceptions, and emerging issues, and explain findings and business implications in clear language for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Validate dashboard results against source systems, investigate discrepancies, and document report definitions, data sources, calculations, assumptions, refresh schedules, ownership, and known limitations.
  • Monitor report refreshes and support appropriate reporting access and data security. Work with the Business Systems & Technology Manager and system owners to resolve reporting data issues.
  • Train employees and leaders to use dashboards and self-service reporting features, and gather feedback to continuously improve clarity, performance, and adoption.
  • Maintain consistent dashboard standards, naming conventions, documentation, and version-control practices.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required to support business objectives and organizational priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business analytics, information systems, computer science, finance, accounting, statistics, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data analysis, including at least one (1) year developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards for business users.
  • Proficiency in Power Query, DAX, data modeling, and scheduled refresh troubleshooting, demonstrated through hands-on experience designing, publishing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards for business users.
  • Working SQL skills, including joins, filters, aggregations, data validation, and query troubleshooting.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation of reporting outputs.
  • Ability to work with business leaders to define relevant performance measures, with the initiative and creativity to recommend improvements and introduce new reporting or visualization ideas.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to validate results, investigate discrepancies, and explain data clearly to nontechnical audiences.
  • Strong documentation, organization, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct reporting or data-analysis experience with Sage 300 and/or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central beyond end-user use; experience with both is a significant advantage. Experience with supporting systems such as AXXIS, ADDS E3/Atlas BI, UKG Ready, SAP Concur, FloQast, Vena, OPIS, DTN, Microsoft 365, or SharePoint is also preferred.
  • Petroleum, tobacco, distribution, or regulated-industry experience, particularly pricing, costing, margins, inventory, excise taxes, freight, rebates, or multi-state tax reporting.
  • Experience developing dashboards for executive, financial, operational, sales, and inventory audiences in multi-company or multi-location organizations, including familiarity with financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Experience establishing dashboard standards, reusable templates, certified datasets, or common KPI definitions, improving dashboard adoption, and retiring low-value reports.
  • Familiarity with APIs, ODBC, ETL, and data feeds sufficient to communicate reporting needs to system owners.
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or similar certification.
  • Experience working within Native American territories or Tribal communities.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Primarily office-based work requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use; occasional travel to company locations or on-site meetings may be required.
