Help us turn trusted data into better business decisions

MSIG Specialty Marine NV is on a journey to become a more data-driven, insight-led and future-ready organisation. We are looking for a Data Product Owner – BI & Data Governance to help shape how data is owned, governed, understood and used across the business.

This is not just a reporting role. It is a highly visible opportunity to move the organisation from dashboards and management information towards trusted decision intelligence where data products are clear, reliable, well adopted and directly linked to business outcomes.

You will sit at the centre of business, data, technology, change and leadership, acting as the bridge between what the business needs, what the data can tell us, and how insight can drive better decisions.

About MSIG Specialty Marine

MSIG Specialty Marine NV is part of the Japanese MS&AD Insurance Group and operates in the global Marine & Specialty insurance market. We provide high-quality underwriting and claims services to clients worldwide across areas including Cargo, Fixed Premium P&I, Hull, Liability, Specie, War and Superyacht/Yacht Insurance.

With approximately 220 employees across international offices in London, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Paris and Singapore, we combine the strength of a global group with the feel of a specialist, entrepreneurial business. We are flat, open and practical, with short lines of communication and real opportunities to take ownership, build capability and make an impact.

Why this role matters

Data is becoming one of MSIG Specialty Marine’s most important business capabilities. To make better, faster and more consistent decisions, we need trusted reporting, clear KPI definitions, strong governance, high-quality data products and business stakeholders who feel confident using insight.

This role brings together four critical areas:

  • BI product ownership and roadmap management
  • Reporting suite governance, quality and standardisation
  • Practical data governance, ownership and stewardship, helping to establish clear roles and responsibilities for domain owners and data stewards and bringing greater ownership and accountability into the organisation
  • Business partnering, data storytelling and insight adoption

You will help ensure that data moves from being a reporting output to becoming a strategic business asset, with clear ownership, meaningful metrics and a strong narrative that helps stakeholders understand what the data is telling them, why it matters and what action should follow.

What you will be doing

You will own and continuously improve the roadmap for BI products, dashboards, reporting suites and insight solutions. Working closely with business leaders, analysts, engineering, innovation, IT architecture and third-party partners, you will translate business priorities into clear data products, user stories, requirements and delivery priorities.

You will also take ownership of reporting governance, helping to standardise KPI definitions, data sources, business rules, reporting logic, quality controls and sign-off processes. A key part of the role will be reducing duplicated or manual reporting and promoting trusted reporting solutions as the primary source of truth.

As a business partner, you will work with teams across Finance, Underwriting, Claims, Marine Pricing, Operations, HR, Change and Senior Management to understand what decisions need to be made, what metrics matter most, how success should be measured and which indicators genuinely drive performance, and how data can support better outcomes.

You will help colleagues understand the story behind the data: what it means, why it matters, what is driving the result, what action it supports and how it contributes to MSIG Specialty Marine’s wider transformation.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the BI product roadmap, backlog and prioritisation process based on business value, risk, urgency and strategic alignment.
  • Translate business needs into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and delivery priorities.
  • Oversee front-end BI and dashboard development with a focus on usability, visual clarity, self-service adoption and data storytelling.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define practical KPI frameworks and reporting solutions, ensuring metrics are clearly linked to business objectives, performance and decision-making.
  • Challenge reporting requests constructively to ensure they are linked to business value, decision support, operational improvement or risk reduction.
  • Drive standardisation across reporting suites, KPI definitions, data sources, reporting logic and performance metrics.
  • Embed quality control, testing, validation, ownership and release discipline across BI products.
  • Support the development and adoption of a practical data governance framework.
  • Define and embed data ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, data quality and reporting controls, while facilitating and supporting domain owners and data stewards to understand and take accountability for their respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Promote data quality as a visible business measure.
  • Support data literacy, self-service analytics and stronger adoption of trusted insight products.
  • Use data storytelling to help stakeholders move beyond reporting what happened to understanding why it happened, what it means and what action should be taken.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify and improve reporting and governance processes.
  • Help position the Data Function as a value-adding partner and centre of excellence for insight, governance and future data capability.

What you will bring

You will bring experience across business intelligence, data products, reporting, analytics, data governance or data management. You do not need to have spent your whole career in data governance, but you should understand the importance of data quality, ownership, stewardship, definitions, lineage, controls and adoption.

You are likely to have experience owning or improving BI products, dashboards, reporting suites or management information solutions. You will be confident working with senior stakeholders and translating business priorities into practical reporting and insight solutions.

Experience in insurance, financial services or another regulated environment would be a strong advantage.

Skills and experience

  • Around 5–10 years’ relevant experience across BI, analytics, reporting, data management, data governance or data product ownership.
  • Strong understanding of BI product ownership, reporting governance and data product thinking.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric would be advantageous.
  • Experience with Tableau, Qlik or similar BI tools would be beneficial.
  • Strong data visualisation and data storytelling skills.
  • Ability to turn complex information into clear business insight.
  • Strong metric-driven thinking, with the ability to define meaningful KPIs and connect performance measures to business outcomes and decisions.
  • Experience translating business needs into requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and delivery priorities.
  • Knowledge of data dictionaries, catalogues, metadata, lineage, KPI definitions and reporting standards.
  • Confidence working with financial, operational or insurance-related data.
  • SQL, data modelling or technical data platform knowledge would be useful, but the emphasis is on front-end BI, governance, usability, business partnering and storytelling.
  • Fluent English, both written and verbal. Dutch preferred.

How you will work

You will be a natural bridge between business users, technical teams and leadership. You will enjoy asking good questions, challenging assumptions and helping people understand how better data can improve decisions.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • commercially aware and metric-driven;
  • structured, proactive and solution-oriented;
  • confident influencing without needing formal authority;
  • strong on ownership, accountability and delivery quality;
  • able to simplify complex data topics for non-technical audiences;
  • collaborative, open-minded and down-to-earth;
  • passionate about building trust in data and bringing people along the journey.

Why join MSIG Specialty Marine?

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the data capability of a specialist international insurance business. You will work close to the business, close to decision-makers and close to the real operational questions that matter.

You will not be hidden away producing reports in isolation. You will be helping the organisation define what good data looks like, how insight should be used, and how trusted BI products can support better business performance.

At MSIG Specialty Marine, you will find a practical, entrepreneurial environment where people are encouraged to take ownership, share knowledge and develop in the direction that suits their strengths and ambitions.

If you enjoy combining data, business partnering, governance, product ownership and storytelling, this role gives you the platform to make a visible and lasting impact.
