We're looking for an experienced Business Rates Manager to take ownership of our rates function, helping to drive cost efficiencies, manage risk, and provide expert advice across a diverse national portfolio.
This is a high-impact role where you'll become the organisation's business rates specialist, working closely with senior stakeholders, external advisors, local authorities and the VOA to ensure our rates position is managed strategically and effectively.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll lead all aspects of business rates management across our portfolio, including:
- Managing and optimising business rates liabilities across a large and varied property estate.
- Reviewing assessments, valuations and bills to identify savings opportunities and challenge inaccuracies.
- Leading appeals, negotiations and mitigation strategies where appropriate.
- Building strong relationships with the VOA, local authorities and external rating consultants.
- Advising internal teams on the rates implications of acquisitions, disposals, developments, lease events and portfolio changes.
- Monitoring legislative and policy changes, ensuring The Arch Company remains ahead of evolving business rates regulations.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and reporting, while providing strategic insight to senior stakeholders.
- Identifying risks, opportunities and process improvements that enhance the effectiveness of the rates function
What We're Looking For
You'll bring a strong grounding in UK business rates together with the commercial acumen to influence decisions across a substantial property portfolio.
Ideally, you'll have:
✅ Significant experience managing business rates within a commercial property environment
✅ Strong knowledge of rateable values, appeals, reliefs, billing and valuation processes
✅ Experience working with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and local authorities
✅ A track record of managing external consultants and professional advisors
✅ Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex property and financial data
✅ Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
✅ A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a keen eye for cost-saving opportunities
