About Matthews Packaging & Hygiene
Matthews Packaging & Hygiene is a proudly New Zealand family-owned B2B business supplying packaging, hygiene and workplace consumables to businesses throughout New Zealand.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Business Systems & Data Analyst to strengthen the way we use technology, data and business systems across our organisation.
This is a key role focused on maximising the capability of our Oracle NetSuite ERP platform, improving business reporting, automating processes and turning business data into practical insights that help our teams make better decisions.
We're looking for someone who doesn't simply produce reports—they understand how a business operates, can identify opportunities for improvement, and can use NetSuite, data and technology to make those improvements happen.
The Role
Reporting to senior management, the Business Systems & Data Analyst will become a key internal resource for Oracle NetSuite ERP, business intelligence, reporting, data integrity, process improvement and automation.
You will work across Sales, Customer Service, Procurement, Finance, Warehouse, Operations and Marketing to understand how each department operates and identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting and productivity.
A major focus of this position will be ensuring Matthews is getting the maximum possible value from its investment in Oracle NetSuite.
What You'll Be Doing
Oracle NetSuite ERP
Act as a key internal Oracle NetSuite subject matter expert and provide strong functional knowledge of the platform across the business.
Responsibilities will include:
Understanding and improving existing NetSuite processes and workflows
Developing and maintaining Saved Searches, reports, dashboards and KPIs
Building role-specific dashboards that provide teams with clear, relevant information
Reviewing how NetSuite is currently configured and identifying opportunities to better utilise existing functionality
Supporting NetSuite users across different departments
Troubleshooting system and process issues
Improving user adoption and consistency
Reviewing roles, permissions and system access in conjunction with management
Assisting with NetSuite configuration and system enhancements
Identifying opportunities to automate repetitive processes within NetSuite
Working with external NetSuite consultants and implementation partners when required
Testing and documenting system changes before deployment
Supporting integrations between NetSuite and other business platforms
Maintaining strong system documentation and process controls
Keeping up to date with NetSuite releases, functionality and opportunities relevant to the business
Strong practical knowledge and previous experience working with Oracle NetSuite ERP is essential for this position.
Data, Reporting & Business Intelligence
Develop reporting that gives management clear visibility of business performance and supports faster, better decision-making.
This will include analysis across areas such as:
Revenue and sales performance
Gross profit and gross margin
Customer profitability
Product and category performance
Salesperson and territory performance
Customer retention and purchasing behaviour
Pricing and discounting
Inventory levels and stock turns
Slow-moving and obsolete inventory
Stock availability and stock-outs
Procurement and supplier performance
Purchasing trends
Warehouse and operational performance
Freight and distribution costs
Working capital
Business productivity and efficiency
Develop and maintain management dashboards using NetSuite and business intelligence/reporting tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
The goal is to move the business toward having accurate, easily accessible and increasingly real-time information rather than relying heavily on manually prepared spreadsheets and reports.
Data Integrity & Governance
Take ownership of improving the quality and reliability of data across key business systems.
Responsibilities will include:
Identifying data-quality issues
Developing processes to improve data accuracy
Monitoring master-data integrity
Identifying duplicate, incomplete or inconsistent records
Improving customer, supplier and product data structures
Establishing reporting standards
Ensuring consistent definitions for business KPIs
Working with department managers to improve data-entry disciplines
The successful candidate will understand that good business reporting starts with good underlying data.
Process Improvement & Automation
Work across the organisation to identify processes that can be simplified, automated or eliminated.
You will:
Map existing business processes
Identify manual and repetitive tasks
Recommend better system-based processes
Develop workflow automation
Reduce unnecessary spreadsheet-based processes
Improve information flow between departments
Identify opportunities to eliminate double-handling and duplicate data entry
Improve system controls and approvals
Measure the benefits delivered from process improvements
You should naturally question:
"Why are we doing this manually if our systems can do it for us?"
AI & Emerging Technology
Help Matthews identify practical opportunities to use AI, automation and emerging technologies to improve productivity.
This could include:
Automating administrative processes
Improving internal knowledge access
Assisting with data analysis
Improving reporting
Supporting customer-service efficiency
Sales analysis and opportunity identification
Document and information processing
Workflow automation
The focus should always be on practical commercial outcomes, rather than implementing technology simply for the sake of technology.
Commercial Analysis
Work with management to turn data into actionable commercial recommendations.
We don't just want someone who can tell us what happened.
We want someone who can help us understand:
Why did it happen?
Where is the opportunity?
Where are we losing margin or productivity?
What should we do differently?
Examples may include identifying:
Customers with declining spend
Customers purchasing below expected margins
Cross-selling opportunities
Product categories with strong or weak growth
Pricing inconsistencies
Unprofitable products or customers
Excess inventory
Supplier performance issues
Territory opportunities
Operational inefficiencies
Changes in customer purchasing behaviour
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Strong hands-on experience with Oracle NetSuite ERP
Demonstrated experience using NetSuite in a commercial business environment
Strong understanding of NetSuite Saved Searches, reporting, dashboards and KPIs
Experience improving NetSuite workflows and business processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience with Microsoft Power BI or similar BI/reporting platforms
Strong understanding of databases, data structures and reporting principles
Experience working with ERP data
Strong commercial understanding
Ability to translate complex data into clear recommendations
Excellent attention to detail
Strong communication skills
Ability to work effectively with people across all levels of a business
Experience within distribution, wholesale, importing, supply chain, warehousing or a similar B2B environment would be highly advantageous.
Experience with NetSuite integrations, SuiteAnalytics, SuiteFlow, SQL or similar technical capabilities would also be advantageous.
The Person We're Looking For
You'll be naturally curious and analytical.
When you see an inefficient process, you'll want to understand why it exists and how it can be improved.
You'll be comfortable moving between a management meeting discussing business performance and sitting with an operational team member understanding exactly how a process works inside NetSuite.
You'll have the confidence to challenge existing processes constructively and the practical ability to implement better solutions.
Most importantly, you'll combine systems knowledge with commercial thinking.
We're not looking for someone whose only focus is maintaining an ERP system.
We're looking for someone who can use NetSuite, data and technology to make Matthews a better business.
Key Measures of Success
Success in this role will be measured through:
Increased utilisation of Oracle NetSuite functionality
Improved accuracy and accessibility of management reporting
Reduction in manual reporting and spreadsheet dependency
Improved data quality
