Summary

A buyer sources and purchases materials, negotiates with suppliers, and manages inventory using ERP systems like SAP to support manufacturing operations.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

Procurement & Sourcing

  • Source and purchase direct and indirect materials in accordance with company policies.
  • Issue purchase orders and manage order confirmations, pricing, and delivery dates.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers; maintain strong relationships with existing vendors.
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives and cost-reduction programs.

Supplier Management

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve best total cost of ownership.
  • Monitor supplier performance (on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness).
  • Resolve issues related to shortages, quality problems, and late deliveries.

Planning & Inventory Support

  • Review MRP or demand signals and ensure timely replenishment of materials.
  • Work with inventory and production teams to prevent stockouts or excess.
  • Support inventory optimization initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Finance on sourcing decisions.
  • Participate in new product introductions and supplier transitions.
  • Support continuous improvement and process standardization efforts.

Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate purchasing records in ERP system (SAP).
  • Track savings, supplier KPIs, and procurement metrics.
  • Assist with audits and compliance requirements as needed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or technical environments strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Proficient with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, etc.).
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to read basic technical drawings or specifications.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.

Department and Supervisor

The Buyer will be part of the Purchasing Department and will report to the Purchasing Manager
