About the role

The Buyer will be responsible for procuring materials, components, and services required to support manufacturing operations while ensuring optimum cost, quality, and delivery performance. Acting as a key liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders, you will help maintain inventory integrity, strengthen supplier relationships, and drive continuous improvements across purchasing activities.

Working closely with Production Planning, Operations, and Supply Chain teams, you will ensure material availability aligns with business requirements while supporting inventory optimisation and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

Procurement & Supplier Management
  • Manage the purchasing of assigned material categories to support production requirements.
  • Source and procure components, materials, equipment, and services from approved suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and commercial terms to achieve best value.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to support long-term performance.
  • Inventory & Planning
  • Monitor inventory levels and purchasing activity to ensure material availability while minimising excess stock.
  • Support demand planning and replenishment activities to maintain efficient inventory levels.
  • Analyse purchasing reports and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist in reducing obsolete inventory and improving inventory turnover.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of ERP purchasing data and inventory transactions.
  • Track supplier performance against quality, lead time, and delivery metrics.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening procurement processes and supply chain efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with Planning, Warehouse, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to resolve supply issues proactively.
  • Reporting & Compliance
  • Produce purchasing reports and KPI updates to support management decision-making.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation relating to supplier transactions and purchasing activities.
  • Qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of procurement principles, inventory management, and replenishment planning.
  • Experience using ERP systems and purchasing software in a production environment.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to influence suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting purchasing and inventory data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
