Who Are We?

At HyPrix, we're building attritable payload delivery systems for autonomy. Things that fly fast, we're enabling them with conscious software. Replicating the capabilities of expensive conventional frontline systems, we're building the cheapest micro and cruise missile systems on the planet. Built for a war of attrition, built for the era of software-defined warfare, built to cater to the front lines of battlefields where no man should stand in the future.

What You'll Do

The CAD Drafter converts engineering direction into clean, release-ready CAD models and production drawings. The position holder also keeps assemblies, configurations and engineering BOMs accurate in the CAD and PDM/PLM systems.

The mechanical engineers own the design decisions. The CAD Drafter makes sure that the documentation captures the design intent correctly. This role supports the engineering change process, but it does not own project schedules.

  • Production drawings. Create part, assembly and installation drawings from engineer sketches, markups, CAD models and verbal direction. Apply views, sections, dimensions, GD&T, fits, finishes, materials, heat treatment, coatings, welding symbols, threads and torque notes.

  • CAD model updates. Make minor CAD changes under the direction of the design engineers: dimension updates, tolerance changes, new features and corrections. Place new components in assemblies.

  • Assemblies and configurations. Maintain complex assemblies and their derivative configurations. Do interference and clearance checks before each assembly release.

  • Engineering BOMs. Create and update engineering BOMs, part numbers and release packages. Keep the BOM, the drawings and the CAD models consistent with each other.

  • Engineering changes. Implement approved ECRs and ECOs in the CAD models, drawings and BOMs. Record each revision and the reason for it.

  • Drawing checks. Check each drawing for completeness, standards compliance and consistency before the engineer approves it.

  • PDM/PLM. Check in, revise and release data in the PDM/PLM system. Keep the drawing register and the file structure organised.

  • Manufacture support. Answer drawing questions from vendors and the shop floor. Prepare manufacturing documentation, simple assembly instructions and as-built drawings when necessary.

  • Release status. Keep a simple drawing release tracker. Tell the engineers and the supply chain team the release status of drawings and the cut-in dates of new parts.

  • Drafting standards. Suggest improvements to the drafting standard, templates and title blocks.

Requirements

Minimum Experience (Years)

2 years of mechanical drafting with CAD.

HyPrix prefers this experience, but it is not mandatory. Demonstrated capability is more important than years.

Required Skills

  • CAD. Hands-on experience with SolidWorks or Siemens NX: parts, complex assemblies, configurations and drawings.

  • Production drawings. Experience to create production-ready drawings with dimensions, tolerances and GD&T to ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS. Knowledge of welding symbols, surface finish symbols, threads and fits.

  • Drawing practice. Orthographic, section, detail and exploded views. First-angle and third-angle projection.

  • Mechanical intuition. Good understanding of how components, fasteners and fits interact in a larger mechanical assembly.

  • Manufacture. Basic knowledge of machining, sheet metal, welding, casting and moulding, so that each drawing is correct for its process.

  • BOMs and revision control. Experience with engineering BOMs, ECOs and a PDM or PLM system.

  • Attention to detail. You find errors in drawings before they go to a vendor.

  • A diploma or bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace or production engineering, or an ITI Draughtsman (Mechanical) certificate with relevant experience.

Advantageous Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.

  • Drafting experience in an aerospace, defence or precision-engineering company.

  • Experience with tolerance-stack analysis.

  • Experience with harness, cable and electrical outline drawings.

  • Experience as a drawing checker.

  • Knowledge of DFM and DFA principles, and experience with new product introduction.

  • A GD&T certification, for example ASME GDTP.

  • Experience with project tracking tools, for example Microsoft Project.

Benefits

Why Join HyPrix?

HyPrix is a lean team with no rule book. Each person receives an end goal tied to a real product, and decides how to achieve it.

The CAD Drafter makes sure that each part HyPrix builds starts from a correct drawing.
