Description

Position summary:

The CAD/Revit Designer – Low-Voltage Systems develops and maintains accurate design, coordination, shop, installation, and as-built drawings for structured cabling, physical security and access control, wired and wireless networking, and audiovisual systems. This position works with project engineering, estimating, project management, field operations, customers, architects, engineers, and trade partners to translate project requirements into coordinated, constructible, and well-documented drawing packages.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Create and revise 2D CAD and 3D Revit drawings for low-voltage systems, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, riser and one-line diagrams, enlarged room plans, rack elevations, device layouts, details, schedules, and installation notes.
  • Develop drawing packages for structured copper and fiber-optic cabling, pathways, telecommunications rooms, equipment racks, cabinets, grounding and bonding, and related network infrastructure.
  • Prepare layouts for video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, intercom, and related physical security systems, including device locations, door details, cable routes, head-end equipment, and coordination requirements.
  • Prepare audiovisual drawings for displays, projection, conferencing, sound reinforcement, paging, control systems, equipment racks, and associated cabling and infrastructure.
  • Incorporate architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, reflected ceiling, door hardware, and technology backgrounds into coordinated low-voltage drawings.
  • Create and maintain Revit families, CAD blocks, symbols, details, title blocks, templates, schedules, and drawing standards for DES technology systems.
  • Perform clash detection and model coordination; identify routing, space, power, cooling, mounting, pathway, ceiling, and accessibility conflicts and communicate them to the project team.
  • Update drawings from redlines, field markups, RFIs, submittals, change orders, coordination meetings, and site verification information.
  • Prepare shop drawings, permit-support drawings, coordination drawings, installation drawings, record drawings, and final as-built documentation in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, estimators, account managers, field supervisors, technicians, architects, consultants, general contractors, electrical contractors, and customer representatives.
  • Participate in project kickoff, design review, BIM coordination, and closeout meetings; track drawing comments and complete revisions within established deadlines.
  • Review specifications, scopes of work, equipment lists, bills of material, product data, and manufacturer requirements to confirm that drawings accurately reflect the intended system design.
  • Maintain drawing files, revision histories, model standards, naming conventions, sheet indexes, and document-control practices.
  • Support field personnel by answering drawing-related questions and issuing clear sketches, details, and revised documents when approved.
  • Perform occasional site visits to verify existing conditions, take measurements, document pathways and equipment-room constraints, and support as-built development.
  • Apply DES drafting standards, customer standards, BIM execution plans, and applicable industry practices while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Leverage and adopt technology to streamline drawing production, coordination, quality control, and document management.
