CAD Technician II - Water Main Replacement Design
Job Description
The CADD Technician II -Water Main Replacement Design is responsible for drafting construction drawings for the City of Chicago’s water distribution infrastructure. The CADD Technician coordinates with design engineers from the preliminary design to the final approved drawings for the Water Main Replacement CIP Program. During this process, the CADD department conducts quality control reviews, project coordination, and drawing standardization to ensure that each proposed design adheres to the DWM CADD Standards.
General Duties:
- Create Construction Documents utilizing MicroStation software.
- Generate detailed utility basemaps and proposed design drawings using quality metrics established by DWM.
- Work with design engineers to address issues during the development of proposed Water Main Replacement projects and Force Account task orders.
- Develop utility survey plans for the Water Main and Force Account team.
- Adhere to established DWM CADD standards. Suggest refinements and changes as necessary to meet the intent of the program.
- Standardize and update border and seed files.
- Create and update IDOT Traffic Control details and Water Main Installation details.
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Ability to pass MVR check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possess extensive and proven design experience using MicroStation.
- Extensive and proven use of Microsoft Teams collaboration software sess extensive and proven design experience with MicroStation
- Experience with Bluebeam a plus
- Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
- 2+ years of professional experience, experience with utilities is a plus.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering or construction environment
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent teamwork, coordination and collaboration skills.
- Ability to respond proactively in a high-paced environment.
- Willingness to adjust and respond effectively to changes.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines set by the program leadership team.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
