CAD Technician- S&I
Summary
Leads CAD teams to produce compliant infrastructure drawings and digital deliverables for UK highway projects using MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
WSP is seeking to recruit a CAD Technician- S&I join the System & Infrastructure II UK team. The successful candidate will lead the CAD delivery for National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework projects. This role involves managing a CAD team, coordinating with engineers, and ensuring high quality, compliant drawings and digital deliverables across all SDF design stages, from feasibility to detailed design and construction.
Responsible for basic CAD, Microstation and Civil 3D design tasks as directed by the Engineer
Responsible for all drafting for a particular discipline
Supervise, coordinate and support CAD Technicians in workload, good detailing practice and work
procedures.
Review and monitor the production of drawings to maintain quality and accuracy
Creation and editing of drawings & sketches in compliance with WSP UK CAD Standards, detailing
practices and agreed timescales
Completion of CAD tasks received from Engineers and CAD Coordinator
Coordinate and support the UK CAD team
Generate sections / schedules / schematics from general arrangement drawings
Ensure drawings are issued, and filed in an appropriate manner
Conversion of ACAD drawings to other formats such as DWF & PDF
Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to line manager
Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies
Develop expertise and stay abreast of developments in relevant technical field
Attend team and project meetings as required
Contribute to the delivery of the business unit strategy.
Support the companies approach to sustainability
Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance WSP UK service to clients
Lead by example and ensure QMS compliance across team
Complete accurate timesheets by set deadline
Feedback on all business development opportunities.
Diploma or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or related discipline).
Additional CAD/BIM software certifications (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, ACC) are desirable.
Experience Requirements
3+ years of hands-on experience in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and related technologies.
Mandatory Skills
Hands-on experience with Microstation ,AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Experience working with ACC, ProjectWise and SharePoint
Competency in workload planning, task allocation, and time estimation
High proficiency in MicroStation, Revit, ACC for drawing production and coordination.
Key Competencies
Ability to utilise ProjectWise, SharePoint, Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil3D in adherence to defined CAD
& BIM standards to develop 3D modelling, layouts, labelling, dimensioning, sheet layout, design details
and other appropriate design concepts.
Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models to assist with investigations of
engineering problems.
Proven ability to work up drawings (plans, sections & details) from Engineers basic sketches to full
working drawings.
Ability to liaise with the design teams as necessary to coordinate design and drawing production.
Capable of handling multiple responsibilities with the ability to accurately predict the time required to fulfil
the individual scopes of work required.
Assists with establishing, maintaining, and enforcing the use of proper CAD standards and procedures.
Undertake reviews of work produced by others to ensure high quality of CAD output.
UK project experience on Intelligent Transportation System, East west Rail and working knowledge of
UK design standard will be preferred.
You should be able to understand and communicate BIM and CAD standards for use on highway
engineering projects and possessing an appropriate overall level of knowledge of the UK infrastructure
design sector.
Proficient in the use of standard MS office software.
Experience in supervising and coordinating the CAD output of others within a multidisciplinary project
environment.
Commitment to work as part of a design team focused on project delivery.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
