Cafe and Barista Lead

Discussion

Saint Honoré Boulangerie is a Portland sanctuary for those who understand that a day without a proper croissant is a minor tragedy. We are dedicated to the French Art de Vivre—the art of living well—by bringing authentic, soul-warming pastry and café culture to our neighborhood.

Our goal is to curate an environment where time slows down just enough to savor a truly exceptional café au lait, giving our guests the Parisian experience without the long flight.

We are adding this Guest Service Lead position because our morning boulangerie machine is bustling, and our Store Managers need a reliable captain on the floor to keep the chaos elegant. Bringing on a dedicated lead ensures our team has consistent guidance and our neighborhood gets their daily bread without a hitch.

You will love this role if you thrive in a lively, aromatic setting where you get to be the anchor everyone looks to when the espresso queue grows. It is a rewarding chance to lead a team with joie de vivre while enjoying the very real perk of being surrounded by the best butter and carbs in the city.

What You Will Do

  • Act as the floor captain, maintaining a bon vivant spirit while keeping our daily operations moving smoothly.
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures so the bakery is always "stage-ready."
  • Manage cash control and register balancing with precision—because math is universal, even in French.
  • Coordinate staff breaks strategically to ensure seamless service for our regulars.
  • Craft expert-level espresso drinks and plate artisan food with an effortless sense of elegance.
  • Mentor and train new hires on our traditional techniques and predictably high service standards.
  • Handle Level 2 inventory and ordering so we never commit the cardinal sin of running out of pastries.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 1–2 years of leadership experience in a high-volume food service or restaurant environment.
  • Unshakeable reliability and the communication skills to gently but firmly guide a team on their busiest days.
  • Must be 21+ (to legally handle alcohol sales) and hold, or be able to obtain, Oregon Food Handlers and OLCC cards.

The Interview Process

We like to keep things as smooth as our café au lait. We will start with a quick 15-30 minute video chat to discuss your leadership style and experience. Qualified candidates will then be invited to an onsite interview to see the bakery in action and feel the energy of our team firsthand.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $17.30 - $20.00/hour based on experience, plus tips.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance through Kaiser, access to Oregon Sick Pay, and the OregonSaves retirement program.
  • Status: Full-Time, Regular.
