California Workers' Compensation Referrals Coordinator - Orthopedics Practice

This position is no longer accepting applications(closed Aug 16, 2026).

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Referrals Coordinator to manage the full referral and authorization lifecycle for a California orthopedic practice. This is a specialized role — California workers' comp referrals move differently than standard medical referrals, with strict requirements around RFAs, authorization timelines, and coordination between carriers, adjusters, and providers.

You'll own each case from the moment a referral comes in through scheduling once authorization is secured, making sure nothing stalls, gets lost, or falls through the cracks along the way.

Core Responsibilities

  • Prepare, submit, and track RFAs (Requests for Authorization)
  • Manage workers' comp referrals from start to finish
  • Follow up on pending authorizations and referral requests
  • Coordinate patient scheduling once authorization is received
  • Upload referral requests and supporting documentation
  • Update case information and notes in ModMed
  • Enter charges related to referral requests
  • Communicate with insurance carriers, adjusters, third-party administrators, patients, and providers
  • Keep cases organized and moving, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • California Workers' Compensation experience — required
  • Prior experience as a Workers' Comp Referrals Coordinator
  • Experience preparing, submitting, and following up on RFAs
  • Strong understanding of the California workers' compensation referral and authorization process
  • Experience coordinating with insurance companies, adjusters, third-party administrators, patients, and providers

Preferred Qualifications

  • ModMed experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience working within a California-based medical practice
