Call for Research Assistants and Postdoctoral Fellows (3-5 Positions)

Information about the research

Nazarbayev University is located in Nur-Sultan, in the center of Kazakhstan. The research environment is international, and English is the working language.

A large part of the research is to be performed by this research assistant/postdoctoral fellow (hereafter, the candidate is named RA/Postdoc) at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). ECE is engaged in both fundamental and applied research, spanning a large variety of research areas including Automatic Control, Automation, Mechatronics, Communication Systems and Information Theory, Signal Processing and Antennas. Cross-disciplinary research is central and encouraged through projects across different groups within the Department.

In this research environment, RA/Postdoc will be recruited to perform excellent research on intelligent ML-enabled 5G/6G communication systems.

Major responsibilities

RA/Postdoc will participate in interdisciplinary research projects, combining wireless communications and security in 5G/6G systems. The candidate is expected to contribute with journal and conference papers, as well as project tasks.

The RA/Postdoc position is full-time temporary employment that offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. The candidate will attend international conferences and meetings, where you will present your work and establish useful contacts with other researchers. Additionally, sufficient support (e.g., research proposal preparation for the PhD application at NU) will be provided for those who are interested in acquiring the PhD degree. Postdoc may also be actively engaged in student mentoring. The initial term is for 1 year of full-time employment, with the possibility of renewal, based on mutual interests. The majority of working time is devoted to the project tasks. The position can commence in July 2022.

Qualifications

  • You should have a recent BEng / Master / PhD degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or similar.
  • (PhD degree should be obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline for the Postdoc position)
  • You must have sufficient knowledge, at least, in one of the following areas: wireless communications, machine learning, and hardware prototyping.
  • Skills in mathematical analysis are essential, particularly in probability theory, linear algebra and optimization theory. In addition, knowledge of simulation techniques is a plus.
  • Experience in Python, MATLAB, etc.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

  4. Describe your research ambitions in relation to the position.
