Canadian Structured Finance Ratings, Analyst – Toronto
Morningstar DBRS is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its Canadian Structured Finance Ratings team as an Analyst in Toronto. Working closely with the rest of the team, the successful candidate will assist in all tasks required to assign new credit ratings for Canadian ABS and ABCP transactions. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset, keen attention to detail, a proactive work ethic, and a commitment to teamwork. The ideal candidate also has the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work with internal and external stakeholders. This role offers wide opportunities to develop structured finance experience in a client-facing environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop in-depth knowledge of Morningstar DBRS’ methodologies for various asset classes in structured finance, particularly transactions backed by retail auto loans/leases, fleet leases, equipment loans/leases, rental fleets, and trade receivables.
- Evaluate transaction proposals in accordance with Morningstar DBRS’ methodologies and criteria.
- Perform analysis of structured finance transactions including the analysis of collateral, deal structures and legal documentation.
- Develop, update and/or maintain complex financial models, cash-flow engines and other analytical tools.
- Assist with the preparation of rating committee presentations and present analysis and recommendations to a rating committee.
- Assist in the preparation of timely, high-quality press releases, rating reports, and structured finance related research and commentaries.
- Build and maintain relationships with Morningstar DBRS’ clients and external stakeholders to communicate credit opinions and rating rationale.
Qualifications
- Completed bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematical sciences, computer science, engineering, or other related fields.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in the financial services industry.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs with very high proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Team player with a demonstrated willingness to learn and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Python, R or other basic programming skills are a plus.
- Prior financial or statistical modelling experience is a plus.
