Cardiovascular Surgeon

Mayo Clinic in Florida is seeking a highly qualified board-eligible or board-certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our growing surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess a robust clinical background, have experience in thoracic transplantation as well as subspecialty expertise in adult cardiac surgery, and share a commitment to academic and scholarly excellence. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex cardiac surgical procedures with a focus on patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Manage heart and lung failure using advanced surgical techniques and technologies, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), ventricular assist devices (VADs), and heart and lung transplantation.
  • Drive innovation and excellence in clinical practice, staying abreast of the latest advancements in cardiovascular surgery.
  • Engage in ongoing academic and scholarly activities, contributing to laboratory or clinical research projects.
  • Mentor and educate surgical fellows and other healthcare professionals, fostering a collaborative and educational environment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care and develop individualized treatment plans.

Interested candidates should submit a current curriculum vitae (CV) and a letter of interest outlining their qualifications, relevant clinical, research, and/or educational experience, and career goals. The letter should also describe the candidate's interest in the position and how their background aligns with the role.

  • Board-certified or board-eligible candidates in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada preferred. Candidates who are not board-certified will be considered based on their qualifications and clinical experience.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship.
  • M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree with eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Florida.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continued academic and scholarly activity in laboratory and/or clinical research.
  • Superb clinician with a deep understanding of cardiovascular surgery, mechanical cardiac support, and heart and lung transplantation.
  • Ability to drive ongoing practice innovation and adopt new methodologies to enhance patient care.
  • Adept at mentoring and educating surgical fellows, residents, and other members of the healthcare team.
