Typical hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. However, due to the nature of this position, flexibility is required. Alternate hours and days, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary to meet operational needs such as events and special activities.

Your Opportunity

  • Under the direction of the Dean, Community Engagement and Careers, the Careers Hub Lead provides team leadership to the Careers Hub Team and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and Career Development subject matter expertise to execute on Careers Hub operational and project workplans to provide, improve, and expand Careers Hub online system and activities, student/ employers and instructor/ program resources, WIL including Co-operative Education pathways, Careers events, and assigned projects in support of Okanagan College community engagement and careers requirements.

Functions and Duties

  • Supervises all regular and non-regular Careers Hub team members
  • Prioritizes and assigns work on a daily basis
  • Schedules additional staff as required
  • Addresses and resolves day-to-day work issues
  • Assists the Dean, Community Engagement & Careers with performance management and interpersonal conflict issues within the department
  • Supports the recruitment and training process for regular and non-regular employees
  • Assists Dean, Community Engagement & Careers with employee performance appraisals
  • Responsible for overall completion, quality, accuracy, appropriateness, and standards compliance for the team’s work performed within the Careers Hub unit
  • Approves unit activity schedule updates and manages change requests to Careers Hub system, resources, and events
  • Performs, trains, and mentors others in the Careers Hub functions, including
  • Managing Careers Hub online system access as directed
  • Responding to student/ employer/ instructor/ staff/ leadership inquiries
  • Providing online information resources and social promotion
  • Processing and monitoring online job postings, processing and monitoring WIL (including Co-operative Education) pathways, coaching and training activities
  • Developing and monitoring metrics and producing regular reports as directed by the Dean
  • Liaising with provincial and national post-secondary Careers WIL groups
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the Careers Hub operational and project work plans including resource allocation, planning, scheduling, change management, ongoing improvements, and evaluation in collaboration with the Department Administrator and Dean
  • Provides subject matter support, issue resolution, advice, guidance, and training for Careers Hub staff, instructors and program staff and leaders on Careers Hub, WIL, and Career Development
  • Assists the Dean and college leadership to determine and execute on short and long-term WIL and Career Development strategy, select approaches, platforms, technologies, and services to meet strategic direction and future need, provide input and recommendation for innovation, operational efficiency, and service excellence
  • Recommends resource requirements necessary to support execution of work plans and projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from a four-year university/college program related to Career Development, Human Resources, Education, Counselling, Social Sciences, or another related program. Plus a minimum of 4 years progressive and directly related leadership experience. Prior experience as a team lead an asset. Extended training or certifications in team work, equity and diversity, Indigenous relationships and reconciliation, program development, evaluation, project management, adult training, career development, or human resources would be an asset. Experience working in Post-Secondary Education environment, or with large Careers or Jobs online systems such as Simplicity would be an asset.
