Role and Responsibilities
Oversee the development and execution of business plans for alcohol and dairy categories and assist with nonalcohol packaged beverages. Increase sales and profitability to drive sustainable growth.
- Build a successful strategy for assigned categories to achieve goals for the category and the organization.
- Analyze data and insights to determine industry and customer trends and use this knowledge to make fact-based decisions. Create and run reports as needed.
- Perform category reviews and implement changes according to the annual Business Plan process and schedule. This includes SKU rationalization, pricing and promotion assessment along with sales, profit, unit movement and space analysis.
- Devise launch plans for new items and exit strategies for underperforming items.
- Develop merchandising plans, oversee the execution of section resets for category reviews and store resets.
- Manage warehouse inventory levels as necessary and build plans to optimize store level inventory.
- Maintain a competitive pricing strategy by market, plan promotions and Loyalty Rewards offers.
- Develop positive business relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Work in partnership with marketing leaders for promotional planning.
- Collaborate with accounting and Pricebook departments to create and maintain agreements and rebates.
- Communicate category plans throughout the organization and to the vendor community.
- Research and resolve DSD item and store service-related issues.
- Compile a list of essential legal requirements for alcohol products in all markets.
- Travel is required periodically to attend conferences, attend resets, execute programs, assess store conditions, connect with suppliers, communicate with retail leaders, and perform market research.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience. Experience as a category manager for alcohol categories at a retailer is preferred. Proven record of successful vendor relations, business development and project management. Experience negotiating vendor agreements. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to identify market trends and develop a business plan to achieve financial goals. Willing to invest time as needed to learn and implement key category management principals. Works well in a collaborative environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and PowerPoint. Outstanding collaborative skills within the organization and vendor community. Strong presentation and communication skills, written and verbal.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Power BI, IRI, Nielsen, PDI Data Insights, Focal Point, JDA or other space management software is beneficial.
