Job title: Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Safety Operator
Reports to: AV Site Lead / Operations Manager
Role level: PMET role under the Career Conversion Programme for Autonomous Vehicle Specialists
Work arrangement: Shift-based operations, including weekends and public holidays; deployment across designated sites
Driving requirement: Class 4 Driving Licence and BDVL required before independent operational deployment
Role Purpose
To ensure the safe, reliable and customer-focused operation of autonomous vehicle services. The role combines onboard vehicle supervision and intervention readiness with fleet coordination, incident response, passenger support, operational reporting and site operations responsibilities. Selected candidates will undergo structured training and supervised workplace learning to develop the competencies required for safe AV operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Onboard AV Safety Operations
Remain ready to take manual control or execute approved intervention procedures whenever required.
Continuously monitor vehicle behaviour, autonomous driving system status, road conditions, surrounding traffic and passenger safety.
Conduct pre-trip, in-service and post-trip checks and report anomalies before deployment.
Operate within approved routes, operating conditions, SOPs, traffic regulations and regulatory requirements.
Support safe docking, door operation, boarding, alighting and accessibility arrangements.
2. Incident, Emergency and Risk Management
Respond calmly to system alerts, hazards, unexpected vehicle behaviour, incidents and near misses.
Apply emergency, breakdown and service recovery procedures and escalate to relevant teams.
Lead or support on-site incident response when assigned.
Document interventions and incidents accurately and support investigations and corrective actions.
3. Fleet and Site Operations Coordination
Coordinate vehicle deployment, charging, cleaning, inspections, maintenance and operational rotation.
Monitor vehicle health and serviceability through fleet systems and dashboards.
Coordinate maintenance and repairs with technical teams and vendors.
Support shift coverage, briefings, handovers, breaks and relief arrangements.
Provide operational direction and coaching to Safety Operators when assigned.
4. Compliance and Performance
Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety standards, regulatory requirements and applicable SLAs.
Conduct or support audits, checks and service-quality reviews.
Track KPIs, prepare reports and identify recurring operational issues.
Follow up on corrective actions and verify implementation.
5. Passenger and Stakeholder Management
Engage passengers and the public professionally and provide a safe, reassuring experience.
Handle first-level feedback and escalate complex concerns promptly.
Coordinate with clients, vendors, site stakeholders, remote support and management when assigned.
Support demonstrations, trials, client visits and public engagement activities.
6. Training and Continuous Improvement
Complete required training, drills, supervised deployment and competency assessments.
Support coaching, briefings and reinforcement of safe operating practices.
Contribute to SOPs, incident protocols, checklists, system guides and site playbooks.
Provide actionable feedback on vehicle behaviour, route conditions and system performance.
7. Cross-Site Support
Support multiple sites, pilot deployments, special projects and service expansion activities.
Undertake other duties related to AV operations, safety and service continuity.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
Diploma, Higher Nitec or Nitec in Engineering, Transportation, Logistics, Operations Management or a related discipline. Other qualifications with relevant transferable experience may be considered.
Career-conversion profile
Suitable for mid-career candidates moving into AV operations from transport, logistics, technical, customer service, security, operations, fleet or other relevant backgrounds. Prior AV experience is not required.
CCP eligibility
Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident, at least 21 years old, and graduated or completed National Service at least two years before application. The new role should be substantially different from the applicant’s previous role, unless an applicable CCP exception applies.
Employment status
Newly hired PMET, with the CCP application to be submitted and approved within three months from the employment start date.
Driving licences
Valid Singapore Class 4 Driving Licence and BDVL required before independent operational deployment. Applicants without one or both may be considered if eligible and able to obtain them within the company’s required timeframe.
Driving record
Strong safe-driving record. Zero demerit points in the preceding three years is preferred.
Transferable experience
Experience in transport, fleet operations, logistics, control room operations, technical services, frontline service, incident response or technology-enabled operations is advantageous.
Candidates from other industries with strong safety awareness, customer service orientation and willingness to learn are also encouraged to apply.
Leadership capability
Able to coordinate work, communicate instructions, exercise sound judgement and support team operations. Supervisory or shift coordination experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Language and digital literacy
Able to communicate clearly in spoken and written English and use operational applications, digital checklists, dashboards and office productivity tools.
Operational availability
Able to work rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays and support deployment across designated sites.
Role fitness
Able to perform onboard duties safely, sustain vigilance and meet applicable medical, licensing and operational fitness requirements.
Programme commitment
Able to commit to structured training, supervised workplace learning, competency assessments and the full CCP training plan.

CCP Application Notes
Appointment is subject to the employer’s selection process and confirmation of programme eligibility.
Applicants must meet applicable CCP exclusions relating to shareholders, immediate former employees and relationships with company owners or decision-makers.
Applicants must not receive duplicate funding for the same or similar programme components and must not have previously received funding for the same programme, unless approved.
Successful candidates must complete structured training and workplace competency assessments before independent deployment.
Key Working Conditions
Service windows may include early starts, late finishes, weekends and public holidays.
The role includes onboard intervention readiness, outdoor site activity, customer interaction and computer-based monitoring and reporting.
Operational coordination duties may be assigned based on service needs, demonstrated competency and management authorisation.
