CDL Yard Driver- B-shift
SteelCell is seeking a dependable, safety-minded CDL Yard Driver to join our team. In this role, you will operate a semi-truck primarily on our campus, moving finished steel jail cells, and potentially containers, between our manufacturing and staging buildings. Over-the-road driving is minimal, making this a great fit for an experienced driver who wants local, consistent work.
The Yard Driver works closely with production, shipping, and scheduling to keep product moving safely and on time. Because our cells are large, heavy loads, we are looking for someone who takes pride in careful driving, proper load securement, and well-maintained equipment. **While this does start at $19.00, you will be making a $5.00 shift differential for working B-shift (Friday- Sunday 6:00a-4:30p)**
Key Responsibilities
• Operate a tractor-trailer on the SteelCell campus to transport finished steel jail cells between production, finishing, and staging/storage buildings
• Move and spot trailers and containers around the yard as directed
• Make occasional short over-the-road trips as needed
• Coordinate with production, shipping, and scheduling to sequence moves and meet production and shipping deadlines
• Work with forklift and crane operators during loading and unloading, and verify loads are properly secured with chains, straps, and binders before moving
• Perform and document daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, and promptly report defects or maintenance needs
• Maneuver large, heavy loads safely in tight spaces and around plant traffic and pedestrians
• Maintain accurate records of moves and inspections
• Follow all company safety policies and DOT regulations
• Keep the truck, trailers, and yard area clean and organized
Qualifications
• Current, valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
• Current DOT medical card
• Safe driving record (MVR will be reviewed)
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in DOT drug and alcohol testing
• 1+ year of tractor-trailer experience preferred; yard or spotter experience a plus
• Experience hauling oversized or heavy loads and with load securement a plus
• Forklift experience a plus
• Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail
• Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
• Able to climb in and out of the cab and trailer, work outdoors in all weather, and lift up to 50 lbs
