Centennial Building Operations Lead

JOB SUMMARY: The Centennial Building Operations Lead supervises activity at the Centennial Recreation Complex and ensures safe participation in recreation programs and rental events. The Building Operations Lead fosters an environment of compliance with all Park District guidelines and provides outstanding customer service by maintaining a thorough understanding of programs and events. A key requirement for this role is the ability to make sound decisions independently. This is a PT 3 position with benefits listed below.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine ice maintenance during each shift, including using the Zamboni to resurface the ice rink.
  • Keep the area clean and organized by sweeping often and taking out trash as needed.
  • Communicate facility expectations to patrons
  • Supervise public skate, freestyle skate, hockey practices, and other activities to ensure they follow Park District guidelines.
  • Use online resources to verify activity schedules and confirm enrollment.
  • Assist with all daily ice rink operations and sales.
  • Assist customer service staff by relaying information to the public about programming at the Centennial Recreation Complex and throughout the District.
  • Assist customer service staff by greeting customers in person and over the phone with a friendly, welcoming attitude, while providing solutions-focused service.
  • Perform opening and closing duties carefully and safely.
  • Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including the Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities.
  • Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals.
  • Participate in planning and execution of Park District-wide special events.
  • Additional duties as assigned

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents.
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
  • Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures.
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed to immediate supervisor and Human Resources and Risk Manager.
  • Attend and participate in required safety trainings.
  • Review all accident and incident reports that occur under area of responsibility and send them to Human Resources/Risk Management division.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years of related experience preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be knowledgeable about Wilmette Park District's facilities, staff, events, and activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, schedules, and procedural manuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment.
  • Ability to use common sense to follow instructions given in writing, speech, or diagrams.
  • Basic computer and technology skills with the ability to learn basic functions of the registration software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to complete and pass employer-provided Zamboni training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasionally works in high, precarious places outdoors and is exposed to wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and the risk of electrical shock.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; push, pull, carry; and repeatedly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • The employee often needs to use their hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include near vision, far vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth assessment, and the ability to focus.

HOURS:

  • Work Schedule: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
