The Central Processing Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Aftermarket Senior Leader and assigned store(s) in the processing and merchandising of donations. When serving as Leader on Duty (LOD) is responsible for assuring safety, production, programs and services and other standards are maintained. This position will also partner with other members of the Donated Goods Retail Administration team, People Resources, and Workforce Development to ensure that all activities performed are in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes.

COMPETENCIES:

Central Processing Assistant Manager must demonstrate strong leadership, operational effectiveness, and a commitment to achieving results. This role requires the ability to manage production operations, support inventory flow, develop employees, maintain a safe work environment, and coordinate key initiatives such as new store openings and first-sort wares fulfillment. Success in this position depends on effective communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and the ability to drive continuous improvement while supporting organizational goals and Goodwill's mission.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Production & Operations - 25%

  • Manage production activities and ensure assigned departments meet or exceed production goals.
  • Monitor workflow and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Communicate production expectations and reinforce the connection between store performance and Goodwill's mission.
  • Coach, motivate, and support team members in achieving operational objectives.
  • Perform production duties as needed to maintain operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor inventory levels and merchandise flow to support store needs.
  • Provide scheduling input and ensure accurate employee timekeeping.

Training & Team Development - 15%

  • Train new employees on departmental procedures, production standards, and safety practices.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, retraining, and performance feedback.
  • Monitor employee productivity and support professional development.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.

New Store Openings - 15%

  • Coordinate production and inventory preparation for new store openings.
  • Establish and maintain required clothing and wares fill quantities to ensure store readiness.
  • Collaborate with logistics, distribution, and store leadership teams to ensure merchandise availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment efforts throughout the opening process.
  • Conduct readiness reviews to verify inventory and operational requirements are met.
  • Support grand opening execution and ongoing inventory needs during startup operations.

First-Sort Wares Fulfillment - 10%

  • Coordinate first-sort wares fulfillment activities between stores and production facilities.
  • Work with stores to obtain and process high-quality first-sort wares inventory.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly collected, sorted, transferred, and processed according to company standards.
  • Oversee pricing activities for first-sort wares to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Coordinate the return of priced first-sort wares to the originating store for retail sale.
  • Maintain communication with store leadership regarding merchandise needs, transfers, and fulfillment status.
  • Monitor fulfillment performance to support inventory and sales objectives.

Safety & Asset Protection - 5%

  • Serve as Safety Ambassador and promote a culture of workplace safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Ensure employees, volunteers, and community service personnel follow safe work practices.
  • Protect company assets, including inventory, cash, equipment, and facilities.

Leader on Duty Responsibilities - 20%

  • Serve as Leader on Duty as scheduled.
  • Assist with employee supervision and daily store operations.
  • Ensure operational policies, procedures, and safety standards are followed.
  • Support cash handling activities, including drawer balancing, deposits, and transaction accountability.
  • Assist with completion and submission of required operational reports.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally while maintaining service standards.

Facility, Equipment & Technology Management - 5%

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the store, production areas, stockrooms, and workspaces.
  • Oversee routine housekeeping and facility upkeep activities.
  • Ensure store equipment and technology systems remain in proper working condition.
  • Report maintenance and technology issues to the appropriate departments.
  • Support resolution of equipment, facility, and system-related concerns.

Additional Responsibilities - 5%

  • Assist store leadership with meetings, projects, and operational initiatives.
  • Support district-wide production, inventory, first-sort fulfillment, and new store opening activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The base level of education, degrees, or years of experience in the same or related field that the employer deems necessary to perform the role.
