Central Sterile Supply Supervisor
Overview
The Central Sterile Supply Supervisor is accountable for supervising and coordinating the activities of personnel engaged in furnishing sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment for the care and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities
- Supervises personnel engaged in decontaminating, assembling, packaging and sterilizing linens, dressings, treatment trays, instruments, and related items; preparation of standard irrigating solutions; rotation of stock; and requisitioning, issuing and controlling supplies and equipment.
- Establishes methods and work performance standards for preparing and handling sterile items.
- Trains personnel in procedures such as proper use of sterilizing equipment, setting up treatment trays, and maintenance of equipment of department and insures that aseptic techniques are employed in preparing and handling sterile supplies.
- Makes recommendations for employment, promotions, termination’s and disciplinary actions.
- Dispenses stock for delivery to various hospitals, and inspects returned equipment to insure that all parts have been returned.
- Takes micro-biological samples of air, surfaces and equipment and sends to laboratory for sterility check.
- Assures biological spore testing is completed daily, recorded, filed and/or initiates appropriate action on unsatisfactory results.
- Maintains an adequate inventory on hand and recommends changes in inventory level.
- Insures that work and storage areas are clean and orderly.
- Prepares reports on activities of the department and maintains necessary records and maintains a schedule of charges to be billed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Education
- Associate Degree preferred.
Preferred Experience
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in Central Sterile Supply Services (CSS) and the operating room preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Ability to supervise, direct, and coordinate the activities of personnel responsible for providing sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment to all user departments.
- Knowledge of inventory control and supply management practices to ensure the efficient and economical utilization of supplies and equipment through standardization.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and sterilization processes to ensure the proper preparation and handling of sterile supplies.
- Ability to maintain accurate departmental records related to inventory, supply usage, and requisitions.
- Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment for staff and customers.
- Ability to coordinate required in-service education and training programs for CSS staff.
- Ability to conduct orientation and training programs for new employees.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Licenses and Certifications
Preferred
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure preferred.
