What the Role Involves

As a Certified Nurse Assistant, you are the eyes, ears, and reassuring presence at the bedside. You support patients through daily living activities while keeping the nursing team informed of every meaningful change. The work is physical, personal, and deeply appreciated, which is a polite way of saying no two shifts look exactly alike.

Daily Responsibilities

• Assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility while preserving dignity and comfort.
• Record vital signs, intake and output, weights, and other measurements with accuracy you would trust for yourself.
• Help with repositioning, transfers, and ambulation using safe lifting and body mechanics.
• Serve meals, assist with feeding when needed, and monitor nutrition and hydration.
• Observe and promptly report changes in condition, mood, or behavior to nurses and clinical staff.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and safe patient rooms and common areas.
• Answer call lights quickly and respond to patient requests with patience and a steady temperament.
• Document care provided accurately and in keeping with facility policy.

• Active CNA certification in the state of Iowa and current standing on the registry.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with nurses, therapists, and families.
• Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout a shift.
• Reliability, discretion, and a sense of humor that holds up under pressure.

Prior experience in a hospital, long-term care, or rehabilitation setting is a welcome bonus, though motivated newcomers who meet the certification requirements are encouraged to grow into the position.
