Certified Wellness Coach
Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC), a nonprofit agency has been providing youth services in Southeast Los Angeles County since 1971 with a primary purpose of providing therapeutic counseling and assistance to at-risk, low-income children, youth and their families.
Mission
The mission of Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC) is to help build individual, family, and community health, well-being, prosperity, and equity. HYC serves clients and community members with trauma-informed, strength-based prevention, early intervention, education, and treatment services.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Services, the Certified Wellness Coach (CWC) will:
- Provide care that is child- and youth-centered, with a priority on primary prevention and early intervention. Scope of services include, but are not limited to, Wellness Promotion and Education, Screening, Care Coordination and Extension, Individual Support, Group Support, and/or Crisis Referral.
- Work on site at various school campuses, including within the HYC operated Dream Resource Centers.
- Responsible for using the multi-Payer Fee Schedule to bill Medi-Cal for allowable services. Obtaining Medi-Cal insurance information to ensure clients are eligible for services.
- Support non-clinical behavioral health needs of children and youth (ages 0 – 25), with a focus on wellness promotion and preventative services
- Responsible for supporting the Center’s operations, programs, provision of mentoring, tutoring, school supplies, interventions and referrals to appropriate mental health or wellness services.
- Provide a safe inclusive space for vulnerable students historically targeted for hate where they can safely study, build peer support, and become student leaders. Use effective, innovative, evidence-based, and community-identified practices.
- Conduct outreach to and engagement with unserved, underserved, and inappropriately served children and youth and their caregivers and persons with or at risk of behavioral health conditions.
- Promote wellness, recovery, resilience, and other positive behavioral health, and primary care outcomes of children and youth and their families.
- Work with school staff and other Dream Center staff and students to ensure that the Centers’ operations work smoothly and serve students optimally.
- Responsible for implementing a sign-in process both to identify numbers and demographics of students; services accessed, and to identify students who may need higher levels of mental health or social emotional wellness services.
