Join ArcelorMittal International in Singapore and become a key player in optimizing the global movement of steel, raw materials, and scrap across Asia and beyond.

About the Role

As Chartering Manager, you will lead end-to-end freight procurement and chartering activities for our Asia-focused trading business. You will work at the heart of international commodity flows, securing competitive and reliable shipping solutions for steel, iron ore, coking coal, and ferrous/non-ferrous scrap trades.

This is a highly commercial role that combines market intelligence, negotiation expertise, and relationship management with shipowners, operators, brokers, and logistics providers throughout Asia.

Based in Singapore, you will collaborate closely with our trading, operations, and logistics teams to support one of the world's leading steel and mining companies.

What You'll Do

  • Source, negotiate, and charter dry bulk vessels across a range of vessel classes, including Handysize, Supramax, Panamax, and Capesize.
  • Manage container freight procurement and bookings for steel products and raw materials.
  • Negotiate freight rates, charter party agreements, COAs, laytime, and demurrage terms.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with shipowners, operators, brokers, and logistics partners across Asia, particularly in China and Korea.
  • Monitor freight market developments and provide commercial insights on market trends and optimal fixing opportunities.
  • Coordinate vessel nominations, laycan planning, and post-fixture execution.
  • Manage demurrage and despatch claims and resolve freight-related disputes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, vessel vetting, sanctions, and insurance requirements.
  • Support freight budgeting initiatives and identify cost optimization opportunities.

What We're Looking For Essential Experience

  • 5+ years of chartering and freight experience.
  • Exposure to both dry bulk and container shipping.
  • Experience in commodities such as steel, iron ore, coal, scrap, or related bulk materials.
  • Strong understanding of charter party agreements, freight markets, laytime, and demurrage.
  • Proven negotiation and relationship management skills.

Highly Valued

  • Established network of shipowners and operators in China, Korea, and wider Asia.
  • Experience working in commodity trading, shipping, freight procurement, or logistics organizations.
  • Professional qualification in maritime, shipping, logistics, or a related field.
  • ICS qualification or similar professional accreditation.
